Hello, Tacoon, my understanding of Deplin is that it's called a "food
medication" because it's a synthethic form of folic acid (one of the B vitamins). In depressed people, and particularly bipolar people, there
is an indication that the patient may not be able to absorb folic acid from simply eating green vegetables (which contain folic acid). There
is something wrong or missing in the pathway for folic acid metabolism
in depressed or bipolar people, it has been suggested. It is designed
to enhance the antidepressant you may be taking so that you get greater benefit from the antidepressant.
My own psychiatrist has promised to do the research for me, and as soon as she lets me know what the results are I'll let you know.
You may also get a little information by going to deplin.com on the internet. Some of the information on it is available there.
Take care.
