Since you're not here this afternoon, Karen, I can go ahead and say
this without the risk of embarrassing you.
To all the members of the Forums on which Karen posts:
Karen is one of those exceptional people in life who have learned to
sublimate the basic human drives. You know what those basic human
drives are:
1. The drive for social approval
2. The drive for power and
3. The drive for reproduction
She has taken those and transformed them into the highest functioning
level that people are capable of: That is the drive for social approval
becomes the drive for improving the social condition of others in a
modest and humble way.
The drive for power becomes the drive to serve others.
I don't know about
the drive for reproduction--that's her own personal
value, but I suspect that she has probably sublimated that to a degree.
We can't sublimate everything; it's too much for the human to be able
to do, but we all like her very much because she has been able to
transform the basic drives into something of very high functioning level.
We pick it up from her work. I would suggest to you that it is extremely difficult to do. Socrates says that to become humble people we must learn to grovel for it. In other words, it's extremely difficult to accomplish, but very, very rewarding when we are able to do that.
I can understand clearly why she is such a powerful (in the sense of sublimation of power) moderator here.
Hope you all have a restful evening tonight.
