If you are looking to go the natural route of dealing with your
depression, I would suggest you get a book called "the ultimate healing system". But first, I would see a doctor or a psychiatrist to get a dx. A doctor to get your bloodwork to see if you are low in any vitamins. You don't want to just start taking them and not be low, some supplements can cause toxicity if you have too much.
A lot of medications came from plants to
begin with, if we are talking herbs. Such as valium is valarien. And narcotics are derived from the poppy plant. So I say if you can help yourself with supplements instead of, or with just less, medications more power to you. But do see a doctor and or a psychiatrist to see if you need any medications. And to see if you are deficeint in any vitamins. My girlfriend gets b12 shots. Yuck, I can't stand needles.
You really should get a dx on the depression. You don't want to be putting anything in your body for depression if you don't need it. Such as St. Johnswort or 5htp. That could be damaging. And never take them if you are taking
anti depressants because you would be at risk for seratonin syndrom. No fun at all.
I hope that you do feel better soon. Do see a doc.
Not only are there con artists in the supplement scams. They are also within our pharmeceutical systems. They give you samples and get you hooked on meds, then you need them. If you want to look at it that way. I take many meds, and I know I need them, but I often wish I would of never taken the first anti depressant and wonder if I would have been able to fight it with cbt only. They say I have a chemical embalance and that I will always need the drugs. Kind of makes a person feel like ajunkie.
Hugs, Karen
PS I eat bananas so I don't have to take potassium, as my blood pressure pill depleats that. I drink lemon water and don't need to take vitamin C. I get enough through the lemons. So there are ways to get your supplements through food.
