Please tell me what I can expect in Celexa from day 1 to months of taking it? Your experiences? I'm taking 20mg once daily after unsucessful attempts at wellburin and Effexor. Prozax 30 mg help a little but the saddness was still there.

HI there,

And welcome to the forum. I have never taken celexa. But I do know it takes six to eight weeks to reach it's full potential. So be patient. Plus if you get any side effects at the beginning, it takes a couple of weeks to go away. So sometimes it can be hard adding a new med, but try to be patient with it. If you are lucky and it is a good match, it should go smoothly. I have taken effexor and wellbutrin, both worked good for me. But now I am on pristiq and I really like it. I also take abilify and xanax. I hope that you have a good day. I am glad that you joined us. Hopefully you will get some responses from people that have had good luck with celexa.

Effexor and wellbutrin are slightly activating antidepressants, whereas celexa is more sedating.
Some facts about celexa:
- potent anxiolytic - works well on the combination of depression with anxiety
- less withdrawal symptoms than other SSRIs
- lower risk of activating side effects (e.g. insomnia, anxiety)
- may cause carbohydrate craving
- less drug interactions than with effexor and wellbutrin
