I still haven't been able to find a job and as the days go by and the more applications I put in I just feel discouraged. I try to be a "pest" and call until I'm able to talk to the hiring manager upfront, but that hasn't been working. Anyways, my mother works at a crappy part-time job make a crap amount of money. We applied for food stamp because we don't have money to shop for groceries. We were told we were ineligible because my mother makes about
$2,000 more than the limited gross income for food stamp benefits, but come on we are struggling to pay bills to pay! We have the mortgage, utility, electricity, phone, car insurance and a lot more other bills to pay. We don't have enough money left over for groceries. I mean when my mother comes across a few dollars we'll go out to like McDonalds and get some food, but that's only about
once every two to three weeks. I've been living off just water and oatmeal for a week now and it looks like that will be going on for a lot longer. We don't have friends or family that can help us out either. It just really sucks that things are like this, I feel so weak I just wish I could find a job so we could make a little more money.

Watch for food banks, we have been having a lot of them lately. People are able to go there with no questions asked. They supply a lot of canned goods and even toiletries. I am sorry you are in such a predictament. There are many others like you. I am sorry you can't get food stamps. It is as if they don't expect us to need to eat. I know how you feel. But when ever I have gotten help from DSS, I always had to pay it back. It is beyond me. I use to have to work for them for help. I really hope that you can get some help somewhere. It is hard these days to get by. Many homeless peiple and it really makes me sad.
Take care, keep trying. You will get there.
Hugs, Karen

I worked every single day of my life, paid my taxes, NEVER accepted an unemployment check, so when I went on disability, I was shocked that the wealthiest country has several hundred thousand KIDS go to bed hungry. Meanwhile, did you know that GE (owns NBC, Coke and everything else) pain NOT ONE SINGLE CENT in taxes-why is this swept under the rug...very few corps ppay taxes. My daughter and I make 1,082 per mpnth (for real, govt pays electric) we are not eligible for food stamps either. It is Homecoming week, what do I tell her when her friends are buying new everything? So I sold my bedroom TV.
But dear princess, I know ALLLL THE FOOD BANKS.You should have a county food pantry, or call Catholic charities, they used to give vouchers and holiday dinners. Here are some other groups that may help: Catholic church, Methodist church, salvation army second harvest and Angel Food Ministries. They vary from place to place, but you could call DSS for local groups or ask other poor people. Try also Low Income Heating and Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). If you qualify, they'll pay utility for a year!!!My hubby and I used to have false pride and shame doing this, but people told us"You worked all your life, you've earned it". Good luck -there are places that will help with rent. It is hard but you will survive, my family has done it for 5 years
Good luck, hang tough

I so agree as we have a local city food bank and we are a small community so find the one nearest you and make the visit. I cannot imgaine what your going through as we have enough to eat but if we didn't I would be at the food bank.
Kindly,
Kitt

I concur. Locate a visit your local food bank. If you can't find one contact your local Welfare office, the Salvation Army, or your local health department. All of them should have that information.
It is also possible that there may be a church or other organization in your area that provides a hot lunch through the week. We have a few in my area that does and I live in a fairly large (area wise) rural county with about
50,000 people total.
BTW: Please don't take this as criticism but instead of visiting McDonalds when you have a little extra money go to the store. You can get 2 or 3 meals easily for what one visit to McD's will cost you even if you only eat off the dollar menu.
