Having trouble finding myself, feel like I'm walking daily in a cloud, dragging my feet, lost... My girlfriend wants me to make more of an effort, the person I used to be able to talk about anything with, I can't even look at her, I don't know how and I don't know why I don't know how... I have no motivation for life anymore, responsibilities compounding and rendering me unable to do them... I don't know how to deal with this, I don't know how to approach my girlfriend about our issues and I don't know how to approach life anymore...

sounds like you maybe going through depression. a chat with your doctor may help you greatly. i am only going by from what you have posted. counselling is a great way to help you with your issues and life problems. i am in therapy and it is the best move i ever made. i am glad that you found us and posted. takes guts. so well done. welcome to the forum. with healing compassion, jamie

yeah, go see a counselor. When I'm not sure how to express s/t, I try it out w/ my counselor. She is impartial, non-judgmental. A counselor might help you verbalize your feelings. When they are all jumbled up, it just confuses us more

I agree with the above post. Counselors really do help us find our way when we are lost so to speak. Give you direction in life. A plan. Sort things out. It is all good. Best wishes to you. Thanks for joining us.

Excuse my ignorance but where is the best place to find a counselor? SHould I just speak with my primary? I'm in a failing relationship and I don't' know how to talk to her, she thinks i'm not trying, and maybe I'm not, but I feel like I am, not to mention life in general piling up, school and 3 jobs, and not jobs I can readily get myself out of, I can't just up and leave despite how much I want to. I had a bright future and foiled myself and am having a difficult time picking up the pieces...[

Sure, your doctor's office usually have someone they can recommend. That is how I started with mine...but make sure you click. Give the counselor 2 or 3 sessions. If you don't feel comfortable, try a new one. And remember, social worker/counselors cannot prescribe meds. You will have to see a psychiatrist for prescriptions. You could go to a shrink first, and they can also recommend a therapist.

I t sounds like youare trying really hard but it has become overwhelming? You have alot on your plate anyway, so it sounds like you could use someone outside your life to give you some perspective on it.

Indeed I do, I'm not really interested in any sort of medication, I know they work wonders for a lot of people, but I don't even like to take advil for a headache, but I'll definitely get in touch with my doctor soon. You're right clicking would make sense considering how vulnerable the situation might be... And an FYI to those who post, most of my replies are self-reflective. I am an extreme introvert when I'm depressed, which is why I'm having a tough time speaking to my girlfriend, in fact I avoid most stressful or confrontational situations. I don't know if I'm depressed or if it's situational, but all I know is I haven't been my self in a long time... Can anyone give me advice about how to deal with it on a personal day to day basis? I know there really isn't one method that any one could recommend but I'm curious as to what works for everyone.

In my opinion, if it is situational, you may very well not need meds...just some talk therapy.

On a day to day basis, and this sounds really banal, try to get enuf sleep, exercise, get fresh air, eat right...do domething that makes you happy that you haven't done for awhile (Mine was my piano), call a friend, try to stay connected. Alot of us tend to isolate ourselves more and more. Avoid that, it becomes a vicious cycle.

The fact that you are curious and openminded bodes really well fr a speedy return to your former happier self

What gets me the most is getting over the anxiety, that constant pit in my stomach, not being able to eat anything, constantly feel like I need to keep moving or I might explode, I drove around for 3 hours the other day because I didn't want to be home or in anyone place... It's the sitting that gets me and I know that but I've stuff I need to get done and it's hindering my daily life...

and now i think my girlfriend might be cheating on me, or at least talking to somebody else even if she's not being physical which is freaking me out even more, we're on a break because we don't communicate enough, which is my fault because of the way I deal with things, and now that I've had enough time to think about things, which honestly has been a long time she wants to go on a break to clear her head, and that I can't just have her back when it's convenient for me

Sure, I'm usually in bed but I can't get to sleep!

Are you in school or working? Insurance? Are you irritable and restless? Any changein your sleep and eating? Are you unable or is it hard to concentrate? Tired? Anxiuous?

Your levels of apathy and restlessness seems above normal levels to me. I suggest maybe just some one on one with a counselor. This girl seems to have had a big impact on you, but I'm sure you can move on eventually. The counselor can better determine whether to refer you to an MD for medications.

I hope that you are in a situational funk and it will pass....but talking to someone(professional) will help you sort out your feelings. Try it

I have a meeting this Tuesday, sort of a pre-session session to go over what exactly I'm feeling to gain a referral. As per your questions I'm extremely anxious. I barely eat, and in fact have lost 6+ pounds in the past two weeks... My mind is constantly racing, i'm breaking out in fits of crying, I go from being extremely motivated trying to get my life back on track to not at all and sitting in my car driving around smoking cigarettes for hours...

And thank you so much for getting back to me tonight, means a real lot to me because there are not many people iI feel comfortable turning to right now and this seems to be at least slightly effective as a means of releasing anxiety

I'm glad you are seeing someone Tues. All those changes are indicative of a depressive episode. Hang in there, try to eat some soup or something bland (I survived on french bread-so nauseous), try to sleep and definitely try to keep you mind occupied, go to a movie, play music that makes ya feel good anything.

UH... I feel like my girlfriend might be cheating on me and it's making me dive deeper into this depression... I've LOST TEN POUNDS and I'm still not hungry... I don't even know how to confront her about it without making her extremely pissed off that I don't trust her if she's not cheating, and if she's cheating then we're done anyways so I'm stuck in this limbo where I'm darned if I do one thing or the other so i do nothing and I'm stuck here in my head about it...

I hope that your girlfriend isn't cheating on you. You really should have some substancial evidence before confronting her about it. It could just be paranoia on your part because maybe you are feeling insecure because of the depression. Make sure you have your facts straight before you talk to her about it. Like I say, I hope she isn't.
