I look forward to seeing your work soon. That fire must have traumatic. No way to save them and clean the soot? They can do that to the Sistine Chapel! There was a story on the news recently about an artist losing her paintings in a flood which really got to me. So sad for both of you.

We use enamel now (and I do love black), but when I was illustrating children's books I used acrylic. Fill me in on the lazy cats etc. Are they the silhouettes that are mounted outside?

about topics... it would just be daily 'chatterbox' and sharing our moods type of thing. Give it some thought and we'll see if this post gets too long to be functional.

Wow! I knew you were quite a lady but wow!! Fine arts, travel and a smart loving(I presume) husband. And your business is very large...your plate is full!! And 11 acres.

My husband was making outdoor furniture for awhile and then whirligigs, but mass production just beat him on pricing...people don't want to pay for craftsmanship when they can get at 25% the $ from China...too bad. We'd all be working if that were true.

You and hubby looked happy Where did you travel? I did quite a bit when I was young and I miss that.

Talk to both you ladies later (maybe-if we don't all fall asleep in our chairs-lol)

The lazycats lay on a fence rail. they are like a sillouette, but the tail and legs are another piece. I do believe that the heat was too. There were three different ones I think, maybe four. It was a pattern that I picked up. We put up a little white fence and displayed them on it. The boards that you make them out of were about an inch thick. He made the kitties and I painted them. It was so much fun. I loved his shadow wolves too. They were lifesize.

What you do sounds so amazing. I bet you sell a lot of characters. Especially this time of year. All of the work that you put into them is amazing. They are lovely.

I am going to go and watch the baseball game for awhile. I will talk to you again.

Yes... I too am enjoying 'touching base' with you. It is fun to hear about what's going on in other parts of the country. Maggie, tell me about your Sal***er Bayou. Karen, could you share your area?

For us... another lovely warm day is expected. I'm glad, because husband and two sons will be working outside trying to connect a faulty septic tank in one building to a grinder pump in another location. Now isn't THAT a delightful topic to start your day!

My husband is very loving and special. We met in NYC... both worked at the same radio station. He was overnight and I was on the day shift. Our fellow workers gave it three months... and here we are, fifty years later this past July. Wish I could tell them "told ya so."

How did you folks meet your mates?

We've done most of our traveling in England and Italy... with some in France. That's over now... but nice memories.

Maggie, know what you mean about the competition from overseas. Early in my business we made inexpensive plaques and went through that same price war. Our product now is too challenging for them.

We're almost entirely Christmas oriented, but may try to expand (again) to other holidays if the sales this fall slip as far as I fear. Expensive stuff during a recession, especially sight unseen on the internet.

Time for another cup of coffee, and my husband just woke up!

Hello again Grandma J,

I am afraid, I am not a Granny, not even a Mum, I am half your age, but the things I have experienced in life have made me feel like I too have had a very long life.  I am afraid for me, time doesn't heal, but we adapt to the painful things we experience, and we learn to hide it from others, (for me anyway)

I don't have any Grand children stories, but I have looked after 600 Teens throughout 10 years with my job, and they certainly provide some pulling of the heart strings and some very funny moments.  (One wee lad punched the wall in anger during the day and hurt his hand, he got up during the night and told me about it, I asked him as he complained his hand was sore, 'what did you think would happen'?, he replied back, 'well, I didn't think the wall would punch me back'.  All I could do was look at him and laugh!!!

And I am not from USA, I live in New Zealand, and Grandma J, I really truely are the well behaved one round here aye, lol tongue tongue tongue

Now I have a few minutes and are going to look at your link. yeah yeah

I loved your site, I loved who created the site and the photo, that's really special, thankyou for sharing that with us.

Good Morning Joyce,

I aM from northern lower Michigan. It is nice here. But winter is long... It is lovely this time of year, but the leaves are falling off the trees now, so it is starting to look strange. But I love walking through the leaves on the ground too. I think of my grandmother because she seemed to have a saying for most seasons and she would always sing a song about October's bright blue skies. They do seem bluer. In March she sang a song about the cold March days. Nothing could be finer. How I long for the months of May. I don't know, she would sing bits and pieces. She lived to well into the 90's. She was a strong lady. But she lived on sweet rolls. lol... Just memories.

I am 52, will be 53 in November. I think I am just coming to the age of feeling wiser. Like I have learned some things in life. There are so many questions as we grow up. I am glad you are here with us Joyce. You have much wisdom to share. And many stories I am sure.

I got to get on with it. Drinking coffee. Yesterday I was up at 5:30, this morning I slept until 10:30. Five hours later. Though my dog woke me u0p at 4:30 wanting out. I am surprised I heard her, I usually sleep very sound. But I wake up to her for some reason. Like my kid. Oh and I never had any children. But I have grandchildren by marriage. Love them so much.

Well, being the 'boss' has it's advantages. Decided to make it an early quit time day today. For the past umpteen years, it's been full time.. occasionally 7 days a week, when we're busy. This year we're (trying to) cut back.

Ladies, I can't tell you how surprised and tickled I am to have received such a gracious 'hello'. When I first attempted to voice my sadness I expected... perhaps solace and support, but never anticipated 'warmth'.

Maggie, look forward to more info from you later. Hope your daughter's doctor visit goes well. Is her name Katie?

Awty-(the good girl). Caring for 600 teens, OMG... it's a wonder you're still so chipper. I can't imagine what that must have been like. Two for me was more than I could handle.
I am almost totally geographically illiterate. Give me some education about your location, please. How's the weather there for you today?

Karen, (another youngster) You're from Michigan! So was my husband (Detroit area). His relatives are still there. That is also where we went on our honeymoon to meet everyone! They couldn't make it to the wedding. We got free plane tickets from our station bosses. The plane made three stops on the way to Michigan... and at one of them there were fire engines on the tarmac. Plane was having tough problems. BUT, we survived.
Sleep 'till 10:30, wow... what a life. It is surprising how we can 'hear' the important things. What's your dog's name and what kind is she?

SE, I also am most grateful for your welcome. This IS one big family, isn't it.

Time for me now to go out and repair the deer netting. Saw 'mama' and two youngsters this morning nibbling on my arborvitae. They did a job on it last winter... so this time, I'm gonna get serious.

It's lovely that you have memories of your grandmother. I too have a few, but she lived far away. She taught me how I could make frosting with just confectioners sugar and coffee.

I have seen photo's of Karens art, and I love what she creates, would be cool if you could put a few up on the site Karen.   idea   idea hope you are all having a managable day, in NZ, it is coming up to 0530hrs, so I will be heading home from work soon, and me and my Moki will be in dreamworld very soon. 

We must have posted at the same time Grandma J.  600 isn't really so noble, it's 8hrs shifts, and I am the lucky one to be working with them.  I had to pick someone for a Leadership group I have been nominated for that I would like to have Mentor me.  I couldn't pick as my hero's in life are the kids that I work with, they have been through so much and they have survived, and it is my honour to try and make a difference for them.  I walk alongside hero's every time I walk into work, and that feels really good. :-)   :-) :-)

Indigenous people are known as Maori, we are meat exporters, so alot of farm land around, known for paua shells, and crafts made from paua, OK, I admit it, we are halfway across the world from you guys, lol

My dog's name is Jasmine and she is a german shepherd dog. She is very smart, but I wasn't smart enough to teach her a lot. She gets very excited when people come over and jumps. I am working on that.

I have a girlfriend with a dog that is a week older than her. We run them together. It is good for both. Her dog was bigger, now mine is. They are like Mutt and Jeff. lol...

It is another beautiful day here today, but rain coming here Thursday too and cooling off. But we have had two or three incredible weeks of lovely weather so I am tryng not to complain about it.

Joyce I am so glad that you have joined us. This is a good forum with a lot of caring members. I enjoy coming here and moderating too. But I am a member so I post a lot. I suffer with the rest of you and coming here helps me so much. Having you here is like a breath of fresh air. I am glad that you have joined us in our little corner of the world. Keep posting.

PA-you are playing hooky but we won't tell the boss-lol! I will weave a picture of home alittle later after Katie's appt...it is a strange and beautiful place(I"m a transplant-grew up in upstate New York and Vermont) Have lived in England and Mexico and travelled europe a little....miss that , don't you?

Anyway, I was going to be depressive and not shower, but changed my mind. I call it hydrotherapy!!

Sorry awty-almost forgot you...NZ is gorgeous and goes from mountains to beaches to rain forest to it all on those little islands. Always wanted to go there.You job sounds very rewarding. I do volunteer for Hope Haven, provides shelter for battered and abused children. They are so fragile and so strong.

I think there are a lot of Michiganders on the fibro forum. It is strange I know, but I think it is the location. And the water surrounding the state. There is a lot of barometric changes here and I think that has a lot to do with fibro pain. I always hurt worse when there is a front coming in.

I hope you all have a lovely day. I have dishes to finish. I made an apple pie and it ran over, what a mess. Sugary syrup everywhere. Luckily I had a cookie sheet under it and foil, but the foil stuck to the bottom of the pie plate. It is soaking now. My exciting life. lol...

Rainy day ...and cool.  Had to wipe the cats with a towel (they enjoy it)...and wipe up all the little foot prints on the floor.

Husband just returned from blood work test.  Has follow up appointment with Oncologist on Friday.

:-)   Maggie, you have it in one, they are so fragile yet strong.  Good on you for working there, it's great to be able to make a difference, but can be tough work sometimes too.

NZ doesn't have any rain forests, but the landscape certainly is beautiful, but through my travels, I have learn't even third world countries have amazing landscapes as well, there is beauty if you look for it, Vietnam is gorgous in terms of what they had to offer with landscapes.

I loved the flower clip link Grandma J, I have sent that to a few of my friends just to brighten thier day, thanks for sharing it turn turn turn

I just walked my dog with my girlfriend. I dug her up some yuccas to plant in her yard. I have a nice row of them that make babies on the edge. So she will have work for the afternoon planting them.

It is beautiful here again today, but rain and cooler temperatures predicted for tomorrow. I hope you all are having a good day!!!

Losing all that work... so frustrating. I've been there, done that, too! I admire you for continuing an additional message.

Quiet day for me today. Both my husband and son have aches and ouches from their construction project yesterday....BUT we have fully functioning restroom facilities now.

I'm trying to get some questions together about radiation treatment for my husband's Oncology check up Friday morning. We are considering 'watchful waiting' as the best option at our age. Any thoughts on that 'delightful' subject, anyone.

Dosed one cat with Frontline Plus for fleas and ticks a minute ago. The other brother can't tolerate that medicine. I'm going to try Advantage. Has anyone any experience there?

I love being a grandma. I never had kids, but have some grandchildren through marriage, they all call me grandma. I love it. I love to spoil them too. It is so much fun. The joys of being a grandmother.

I don't have kitties, but I do have the dog. I use a heartwormer that has a flea repellent or something in it. It is rather expensive, but in the winter I get a heartwormer that doesn't have the flea stuff in it and it is much cheaper. I keep her on heartwormer all year so she doesn't ahve to go through the dreadful blood draw in the spring.

My first husband had radiation treatments but he had terminal cancer. I don't know but they gave him radiation for ten days straight as I remember. He had lung cancer. I think they attack it aggressively just to get the tumors down for comfort at that time. But his still kept multiplying. Plus it metastisized to his neck. So he had head and neck cancer too. In fact one tumor broke his neck bone. He couldn't use his right arm for awhile, and it was painful.

So I am not much help but wanted to write anyway. I hope that you are having a good day today.

Yes we had aplumbing problem. Every time I stuck my hands in dishwater , I got a pretty good shock. Turned out the dishwashing machine had lost its' ground and then blew a switch on our water pump...Thank God my hubby is an electrician-bill would've been at least 500 with outsider. See, he does have his good points-lol.

I'm sorry I don't have much to say .Katie's mtg w/ therapist went fine, but at this tim,e, they have noone in their clinic that can prescribe meds. My NP is out on med leave, shrink is out on vacation and new doc does not stsart til 24th. Would they run their ER this way -I think not. How can you run a behavioral health group w/o meds????? I told them they have a young girl who suffers every day she does not get medical attention..."i'm sorry ma'am, I'm just the peon" Well, for their sakes, I hope somebody does not kill themselves in the meantime. They function w/in the biggest hospital on Mississippi coast. What are these people thinking? Anyway, I got so wrought up, I took a Klonopin and I'm taking a nap
