Sears has announced that it will close 100-120 stores due to very poor holiday sales. I happen to work at Sears, and my store manager has mentioned more than once that our store was THEE worst in the district for quite some time in many of our metrics, including sales. I can pull up that data myself since I am one of the lower-level managers, so I know it wasn't just a scare tactic. So now I am awaiting the official list of stores to close.

In some ways I think if my store closes it will be a blessing and force me to move on, since I hate that job. Of course, I'm also afraid I won't find another decent-paying job or will have to work 2 or 3 jobs to make up the difference.

I hope they don't wait too long to post the list. I'd like to know as soon as possible, and I know everyone in the store will be freaking out until we know. I guess in the meantime I'll have to start sending out applications just in case.

I think checking out your options is a good choice, whether or not your store closes. Best of luck!

I am sorry to hear this. I hope that your store isn't one of the ones that closes. But I too think that looking for another job just in case is a good idea. You will be a step up in the game. If it closes, will it close immediately? Or will they give you time to seek other employment while they are closing down or something? I know that this must be nerve wracking to you to be wondering. I hope you find something out soon. Do keep us posted. We do care.

I don't know the details, but I'm sure we'd have a bit of time because we would have to set up for a closing sale to sell off everything in the store, so maybe a month or two? But that's still not a very long time to look for a job considering the area I live in and what's available. Hopefully I will hear something internally when I go to work tomorrow rather than having to hear it on the news.

Good luck Alaskah....I hope that your store stays open even if you hate your job it would be terrible all those people looking for work, this economy just seems to be getting worse. I hope you hear something soon it is not fair to make all those employees worry themselves sick.

Feeling your frustration Alaskah...IF the worst does happen, I hope it turns into an opportunity for you to make a good move as I know how unhappy you have been there for awhile...hope you can find some options quickly, you are super bright and I wish you the best

Thank you. Still waiting for the announcement of which stores are closing. I guess some of the stores closing are also Kmarts, not all Sears stores, so that lessens the chances of it being my store by a little bit. I've been sending out applications though and keeping my eye open for other opportunities. It's terrible that they announced store closings, but didn't say which stores so now we are all just sitting and waiting. And we are not supposed to talk about it at work, but a few customers have been asking me if our store is closing.

They listed 79 of the 100-120 stores that are closing on www.searsmedia.com if anyone is interested. So far, my store is not on the list. But I can tell many of the managers were worried about it. They will announce more stores soon. I feel terrible for all of the people finding out about their stores closing. There seems to be a good spread across the US.

That is really awful. So many people losing their jobs. I hope that yours does not close. Keep us posted.
