Newly Diagnosed Today with Depression

I went to work and just could not function at all and was continuously crying and called the counselor who said this was an emergency and to get into my primary doctor.  I saw him this afternoon and he has diagnosed depression and put me on Wellbutrin.  I am wondering about the medication and any side effects I should be on the look out for.  I have taken antidepressants in the past and had reactions that were horrible.  I don't know which is worse, the depression or the side effects.  My doctor has taken me off work for at least a week.  Doing the simplest of tasks seems too much right now.  How quickly does the med start to work? 

I loved Wellbutrin . It gave me so much energy. I had to take the short acting one. The long time release one kept me up during the night. It work fast with me. I could tell by a few days that I was much happier. I did have to stop it because of drug interaction. I was disappointed that I couldn't stay with it. I had to go back on my old one remron. I miss the energy it gave me.

Welbutrin may take effect quickly but like other anti-depressants it may take 4-6 weeks to have its full effect. Harsh truth I know but you have tio hang on to the hope that it WILL get better...there is no immediate relief in psychological pain, like physical pain.

Depression is a struggle but we do have lives. Tomorrow you can get appt w/ counselor or doc for maybe additional therapy or meds to help you over the hump...maybe you could get outside for a walk before you start crying, I have a daughter so I just don't have time to cry many days, so keep busy doing anything and don't forget "tears are a gift" (when used sparingly-lol)
