Wellbutrin and Zeprexa or Effexor?

I'm extremely depressed and have been for years. I was on Remeron for a year, but had to get off because of weight gain that was starting to make me more depressed. I was on Zoloft for awhile, but that had sexual side effects. My doctor has recently suggested Wellbutrin and Zeprexa combination and I'm hesitating. I've heard good things about Effexor, but don't know much about the side effects. I basically want information on any of the three meds.I really am trying to avoid weight gain and sexual side effects.

First of all, welcome to the forum. I recently switched fromPaxil to Effexor, this is my transition week and so can not be of much help. I will keep you updated if you would like.

Hi Rennie!! Just wanted to say I am taking Effexor, and like it better than any other antidepressant I've tried. And believe me , I have tried most of them in the past year.

It has been absolutely side-effect free. Also, it is helping me to be a bit more alert, and now I don't sleep as much as before.

As to the other medicine you mentioned,are you refering to Zyprexa? If so, I just began taking that about a week ago.I don't like alot of the things I am reading about Zyprexa.

Kinda scarey side effects are warned of, and i just don't know!!

But I am going to stick with the Effexor-Zyprexa cocktail for now.

Oh, and I have never taken Wellbutrin. but I have a friend who takes it and swears by it.

Hope you find something to lift you out of the pit!!!!

I want to say that I have found that Effexor has been one of the most effective medications for me as far as treating depression.  I went through a phase where most SSRI's would not work for me Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac you name it.  Right now I am on Effexor Wellbutrin and two others to help with sleep.  Wellbutrin XR has been great as well.  It has really helped with my energy and hasn't made me drowsy like the others.

Have been on Zyprexa before and gained weight doctor took me off of it.

Hope this helps-- Its so frusturating how different our systems react to certain drugs! Its not easy to get the right combo the first time.

Thanks for the info! Appreciate it. I've heard that Zyprexa can cause weight gain and don't know if I want to go there.

One more question, do either of you feel that Effexor makes you anxous? I also have been known to suffer from occasional panic attacks.

The biggest reason my Dr. switched me from Paxil to Effexor is the anxiety I was beginning to feel. It is suppose to help with that. I have noticed a change already since comining off the Paxil. Just like locket, I am not as tired these past few days. While on Paxil, I felt like I wanted to shut my office door and curl up on the floor and sleep. I haven't felt like it is all I could do to stay awake these past few days.
