Lexapro -- what to expect?

Hello.  I am starting on Lexapro tomorrow.  I have never before taken an SSRI.  I am sure each person reacts somewhat differently, but I am interested in what I should expect.  Am I likely to feel totally different?  React to people differently?  Will people likely notice a difference in me?  Or are the changes more subtle?  

My doc says likely side effects are a minor headache for 20 minutes or so, the first couple of times I take it, and maybe a slightly upset stomach for a few days.  Does that sound about right? 

I have read the package insert, so I know the statistical information.  But just looking for anyone's personal experiences.

Also, I asked doc if I can drink alcohol while on Lexapro.  I am not a heavy drinker, but I have a nice wine collection  and I really enjoy my one glass of red wine a night, with dinner, and an occassional beer out with friends.  Doc said "don't drink at all the first week; after that you can try a glass of wine one night and see how you feel -- some people find they can't drink on it, while many others find one drink a night fine."  Any experiences on this?

Just want you to know that alcohol is a depressant. An occasional glass of wine or beer may not bother you but it may make your depression worse. So follow doctor's orders to the tee. Be careful.

I truly hope that the medication works for you. It does take six to eight weeks to reach full potential. So be patient with it. I hope you don't have the side effects.
