Good evening, Jam... Good morning the rest of you. Just 'checking in' Did you know….   I had amnesia once---or twice     Got an e-mail poem from my sister in law that was fun for us 'older' folks. It is VERY long...so I'll just post a few verses occasionally With all today's technology we grant that it's a plus! But it's fun to look way back and say, Hey look,guys, THAT WAS US       A little house with three bedrooms, one bathroom and one car on the street. A mower that you had to push to make the grass look neat.   In the kitchen on the wall we only had one phone, And no need for recording things, someone was always home.   CU all tomorrow! ~ Joyce    

I am at home visiting my family but... I'm
alone! They all have things to do today, so I am going to
run some errands. I have been able to run errands alone in my small town & I know I'm ready to be able to do it again in New Orleans. I think this is a step for me because before, I was afraid I'd magically run into my ex... Ex who? My life has really improved since she left--- I should send a thank you card! (just kidding)

Do you take anything for anxiety Ladyvol? Maybe you should talk to somebody about this. I mean like a counselor or someone. Start with small trips for just a couple of things. Eventually build it up so you are out there for longer and longer times. Eventually it will be so easy. I get that way, but once I get there, I am okay. But I use to have to take a xanax to get through walmarts. I can do it now without though and even do a lot of shopping.

That is fantastic. You have a super great attitude. I am glad you are getting past this point. You should be able to go where you want, when you want. Now you wont have to see her. I am glad. I am so glad that you posted too...

Checking in and need to vent...

On July 17 my estranged 23 yr old son was the victim of a hit and run and escaped with rather severe scrapes and tread burns. He was clipped by a truck and fell under the wheels of it's trailer loaded with lawn equipment. At his request, I went to see him a few days later and we had many hours of good talk with (I thought) the air cleared of old conflicts. Two days later, I took him and his younger brother fishing and he got all upset over some silly little thing so now won't speak to me.

The real problem I have is the fact that he's become an alcoholic - I know this 'cause I grew up with it and can tell a mile away. He's told me himself that he "had" a problem but he's still drinking every day - he reeked of booze when we went fishing and I think he got upset because after 2 hours he was losing his 'high' and feeling the 'need'.

Yes, it hurt when the day went awry but not nearly as much as coming to this realization.

That same day, I learned from my ex that my other son has been hoarding 'home brew' drugs, including gasoline, nail polish remover, nutmeg and even had some of his grandmother's pain meds. We talked to him and he is very depressed, wondering that his life is pointless. Gawd no......not at 20 yrs.... The problem is I live 2.5 hrs away from him so it's hard to see him as often as he obviously needs. I have offered him a place with me here (his brother as well) but he is so confused he doesn't know what to do - and I have to admit, as a parent, I don't know either!

On the flip-side, my daughter (the youngest) is moving in with me to attend university and everything seems to just be falling perfectly into place. She is happy, healthy, working at a great job, taking flying lessons and excited about this September and the changes on the horizon.

I just don't know what to do about my youngest son. It's tearing me up knowing he's so unhappy.

Anyhow, for myself, things are not so bad. I still haven't a bed (floor sleeping for the last month) but I have been getting out and about as much as possible - it's just so lonely in a new town and one that's a college town filled with young kids. But my problems are small compared to my kids. I'm just feeling lost...

Hi and thanks. I can't really do anything for my eldest son - he won't listen to me. But you're right about my youngest - his mother and I have already started talking about counselling. It's just such a shock, y'know. I'm really hoping my younger son will move here with his sister. I'm working till Thursday so have no real chance of doing anything quick but am calling him daily.

He did break down crying and tell us he was glad we found what we did so it's definitely is a call for help. Sometimes I just can't help feeling that I've failed him and his brother - haven't been a good enough father, after all, it was my leaving that caused the family split. I know I left for legitimate reasons but think maybe I could have tried harder to keep us together.....I don't know....this world is so skewed...societal 'norms' and 'expectations' lead us to so much self-doubt and recrimination.

I think I'm frightened by what the next decade may bring......

Good Monday morning...Well, not THAT good. Have to leave in a few minutes for blood test...(No coffee, waaah).  Then, this afternoon I'm having a tooth pulled.  CUL ~ Joyce  (Is it Tuesday yet?) Idle Thoughts Of A Wandering Mind   I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.     Did I read that sign correctly?   In an office: AFTER COFFEE BREAK STAFF SHOULD EMPTY THE COFFEE POT  AND STAND UPSIDE DOWN ON THE DRAINING BOARD  

Sounds like a not so fun day Joyce. It will be good to get this over though. You will feel much better.
