HELP ME PLEASE

I was reading that Effexor XR and Pristiq are chemically the same. My doctor switched me to Pristiq because after 18 years, the Effexor quit working. If they are the same, how is it going to help me. I am sooooooo scared. I need help. Please help me

They are similar but still may be different enough to be effective for you. In case it does not work there are other SNRI's to try that could help. Cymbalta and Savella being a couple. Remeron and the older class of antidepressants (Tricyclics) also have Norephinephrin uptakes. As a last resort you can make your own SNRI to some degree by combining a NRI and SSRI although this is probably not ideal. But I would give the Pristiqu a try and see how it goes. I understand what you are going through though cause I have been in your shoes with Effexor. It is a difficult drug to match because the properties and mechanism of action are very different than other antidepressants out there. Unfortunately Effexor works on the opoid system too, which is something no other antidepressants do. And docs conveniently don't tell you when you start on it. Again, try not to worry though and just see how the Pristique goes. Good luck to you.
