Hello all and thank you and this forum so much for being here

I will help others here as best I can with what I know from my own
experiences with anxiety, depression and feeling suicidal

I've been suffering with anxiety and depression for several months now primarily
from financial issues. On top of that I'm older now at age 58, no family, no
relationship for over two years and I'm living in a rural area.

I went through this before for the first time about four years ago with
the help of my long term girlfriend who got me into treatment with lorazepam, Prozac
and counseling

I pulled out of that episode fast because I stated making money again, thankfully

But I screwed up again with the money and it hit me really hard mid-July that
I'm not going to make it financially

So I got back on lorazepam and Prozac through my primary care and started
counseling. The Prozac made me worse this time so I stopped after three weeks

I had to stop the counseling too because my high deductible insurance doesn't cover it

So here I am managing the anxiety with lorazepam taken middle of the night and some
during the day

There's more but that's plenty for now

Thank you so much for being here for all of us.

I need help now regarding my getting back on an anti-depressant or not

I haven't wanted to get back on an anti depressant but I can't help but
see how depressed I really have been here.

I was told by a health care manager as I discussed my situation with her, that
Prozac is well known to be a bad choice when there is such anxiety as I have.

She recommended I ask about Celexa which I happen to have some left in the fridge
from my previous episode years ago. So I'm tempted to start taking half doses (split
these 40mg) tomorrow morning.

I don't know if that's a good idea without consulting my primary care people but they
have been frustrating to deal with anyway


My other key issues are my being so isolated, alone and having no idea how I'll ever
get myself out of this mess.

Hi Tony,

I just wanted to pop in and welcome you to the forum. Also reinforce what Trina said about talking to your doc before starting any meds. If these are old, you don't know how they are going to effect you, so I would throw them out.

If your dr isn't helpful (I think that what's you were alluding to) maybe you should find another. If you don't want to jump straight to pills maybe you can start done therapy? Ask your dr who they would recommend and go from there. I know from my experience that even just taking steps to help myself made a difference in my depression.
Just remember, depression is an everyday challenge. It's about learning the best coping strategies for yourself. If antidepressants are how you do it, then that's great and don't feel bad! I'm in a bad spot with mine and I'm working on climbing out. The people here are wonderful.
