8 weeks on Lexapro

I have been on Lexapro for about 8 weeks now and feel no change. Started at 5 mg and worked up to 20 mg. progressively. Everyone keeps talking about noticing some change after a couple of weeks but I am not noticing anything but the side effects.  Before this I was on Cymbalta for 6 weeks and also noticed nothing but the side effects. Wondering if anyone has any suggestions or ideas. Do I need to go to 25 or 30 mg or does it take longer to work.  Any experiences?

Keep hanging in there. If nothing else changes soon, then talk to your doc, you may need a med adjustment.

Pete...20 mgs is the highest recommended dose for Lexapro so please don't bump up your dosage on your own without speaking to your doctor first.  The therapeutic affect of these class of drugs is limited...meaning they work for a certain amount of time then you have to increase the dose to get the same relief.  I am really shocked your doctor has you on the highest dose in six weeks time...

Everyone's brain chemistry is different and it can take trial and error to find something that works.  I could not tolerate any drug in this class...some see improvement in a week or two.  I hope you find something that works for you.

If it were me, I would talk to my doctor. It's had plenty time to work and if you notice no change after this much time it's not working. Everyone is different but you've given this enough time to see if it works for you.

Lexapro was a miracle drug for me. It took about 2 weeks to really get working for me but it can take over a month.

Remember do NOT just stop taking Lexapro, talk to your doctor before you do anything. There are some rather ugly side effects of just stopping Lexapro. So please talk to your doctor.
