Hi. I've been depressed a number of years now. I've tried many medications in the past such as Paxil, Zoloft, Celexa, and a couple others, none of which helped . I'm now seeing a therapist who is great and she wanted to get me back on an antidepressant. She suggested some of the newer ones which she explained to me work on a different area of your brain and are supposed to be more effective than the ones I mentioned.
I was first prescribed Wellbutrin by my PCP. I took this for about a week and a half to two weeks but I had severe constipation. I would take a laxitive every other day and I can't remember ever having a bowel movement without the help of a laxitive. I felt extremely bloated and stopped up which I knew was unhealthy. I took extra fiber and drank more water but it did not help me. I decided I could not live like this and went off it.
I was off antidepressants for a couple of months and my therapist them wanted me to try Cymbalta, which is very expensive but I know there's no price to pay compared with feeling good. I took one dose and woke up feeling sick as a dog! I mean, so nauseous and dizzy, with a bad headache, it was awful! I took it for 2 days, (starting dosage of 30mg), but as I said I was so unbelievably sick I could not even go to work. It felt like I had a very bad stomach virus. I can't afford to lose any days off of work. My PCP told me to stop taking it.
I really want to try again with the Wellbutrin because I am thinking the constipation would be better to deal with than the nausea and dizziness I had with Cymbalta. Or should I stick it out with the Cymbalta? But I can't imagine feeling that awful and like I said I cannot afford to miss work. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am brand-new to this forum and this is my first post :)
