New Member/Short History/ Need help getting oriented/ED problems related to depression meds

I arrived at HealingWell through a google search. I was searching for comparative info for viagra vs cialis. The search result was in Prostate Cancer and eventually realized that the thread was closed. No post since 2010. I came to the depression forums which more closely matches my situation and have tried to use various searches to get to useful, related info without much luck. So, any suggestions are welcome.

History

I had several depressive episodes several years ago. I used primarily Lexapro for treatment. After the episode had past I stopped taking the Lexapro. After returning 2-3 times, my doctor suggested taking Lexapro and Seroquel long term as a preventative treatment. This seemed to work as there were no recurring serious episodes. I noticed a lack of sexual drive and inability to achieve an erection, which is a recognized side effect. At the time I was not with anyone so it was annoying but not a problem. More recently I am with someone and would like to resume sexual activity. I stopped taking Lexapro and Seroquel with no apparent ill effects, but was not able to achieve an erection. Tried viagra 50 mg and 100 mg. No luck. This was when I wanted more info on cialis and started my google search that lead to here.

So, in a nutshell that's my story. Am I in the right or best place? Is it better to join a thread or start a thread.

Welcome to the depression forum!

Being the holidays, I don't know how many responses you will get immediately.

I am female so can not give you any first hand knowledge on this subject. Except to tell you that depression itself decreases urges as does the medicine which you already know. Alcohol will also decrease urges/drives, so I would not drink any.

You could try a health food store for a natural remedy and see if that works. A lot of people use natural/alternative solutions to aid in our depression and side effects of the medications.

I do hope that you are communicating with your doctor about stopping and increasing medications. This is very important when you have depression. It is a serious illness and should be respected as one.

I did work with my doctor when eliminating the depression meds.

I am unfamiliar with natural remedies. Any suggestions?

I was reading recently about ED and nicotine. I use smokeless tobacco which probably involves more nicotine than smoking. I had already planned to stop(new years resolution), but may have a new incentive. Any add'l info on ED and nicotine

Ok, not being a man I can not say if these actually work. 2 of my friends say these suggestions do work, each person is different and results did vary.

Go vegetarian, NO red meat, 3 weeks before you notice a difference

Increase mushrooms and greens in diet

As you already know, smoking is a big NO-NO. No Alcohol

Intimate communication a must! This is a must- must be relaxed with the partner...

I kinda think it is a combo of mind and body being in the right moment. there comes a time in our lives when we just can not call it up at a moments notice anymore. Women do have the same issue, believe it or not.

As a member of the Prostate Cancer forum (I had a Radical Prostectomy), I can give you some information. ED can be caused by physical problems and/or psychological problems. Because you are currently under a Dr.s care, I hope you are getting a prescription for the Viagra from your Dr. If your Dr. is unwilling or unable to help, then go to a Urologist for a second opinion. Some Urologist are actually ED specialist.

The normal course of treatment for surgery patients such as myself is as follows.

.25mg Viagra daily for 90 days

If no results, then try Cialis for 30 days

If no results, then try Levitra

If no results, then we do Trimix-which is an injection in the effected organ.

I left out some details, because I do not want to encourage you to self medicate.

The most important message I can convey to you is to seek help from your Dr. or find one to help you. ED is very treatable.

Edit-Also, if you bought the Viagra off the internet, you may have gotten a bad batch.

Thanks for the info. I am working with a urologist. I am on cialis 5mg for 30 days.
