Job Etiquette Question

I had a breakdown in June. I left my job abruptly, but not on bad terms. I went through a round of ECT, and I can't help feeling like my sudden hospitalization left co-workers in the lurch.

It's been about six months now, and I am feeling a lot better. I'm on Viibryd and am trying to get my life back together. I've been working part-time at a dead-end job just to save up some money. My question is this: would it be inappropriate to send my former supervisor an e-mail asking if there are any employment opportunities? I worked at the headquarters of a big moving company. Is it weird to write an e-mail asking if he could meet with me? Would it be weird to call him? I don't think I burnt any bridges, but I imagine also that they would be a bit wary of me.

I should mention that I am moving back to the city I left six months ago, so having a job before I get there would obviously be ideal.

Any input on professional etiquette in this situation would be greatly appreciated.

I'd recommend calling him. As a former supervisor, I can tell you that will appear much more professional, plus it will be harder for him to turn you down on the phone than via e-mail.

I agree that your chances of re-hire may not be good, but if you don't at least try you have no chance at all.

Does you surpervisor know your history? If they do you may have good chance depending on the job you had.

Like Judy, I would call. email most definately will give you a turn down. However, a phone call, may not get you a job there, might get you a reccomendation someplace else.

Though be prepared for a no at the original job.
