My insurance company switched me to the generic lexapro.   I have typically had no problem with generic medications therefore I assumed I would be fine, boy was I wrong.   After 7 days of the generic I started getting extremely irritable and my anxiety was through the roof.   I have never had any sleeping issues and now I have insomnia.    I have been fighting with the insurance company to ge the brand back, got four tablets so far and if I have to pay for a month out of pocket I will, no amount of money is worth this feeling.

Welcome to the depression forum. This isn't the first time that this has come up. It makes me want to email the company. Or somebody. There seem to have been similar threads about generic lexapro on this forum before. And the generic never seems to work as good.

Sometimes when you look the brand name up on the internet, you can find that the company offers some discounts. I would look into that. And another site that might help you is http://www.needymeds.org. That may help if you are low income. The brand names are very expensive. And it is a shame when the generic doesn't work as well. If you can't get the lexapro, maybe you could get something for the irritability and anxiety. Though that kind of makes you want to switch completely.
