weight loss...??side effect?

I started celexa only a week ago.also taking ativan as needed for anxiety. I have lost seven pounds.I am not underweight.in fact I have struggled for years on diets trying to lose even five pounds was next to impossible. I'm just wondering what this sudden weight loss is about?? Has any one else had this side effect? I've been ion prozac, paxil, cymbalta, and even celexa before and never lost weight.in fact I gained. I am really anxious about this my extreme thinking kicks in and I'm almost convinced. I'm dying of something ....grateful. for any responses or suggestions thank you

Hi Hopespring,

Anorexia is a possible side effect of celexa. So watch your weight loss. If it goes to an extreme, make sure to contact your doctor.

A lot of times you get a side effect for a couple of weeks when you start a new medication or when you increase a medication. Hopefully, it will go away in a couple of weeks and your weight will level off. In the meantime, if you are trying to lose weight, this could be a good thing. A lot of different things can happen when we start a new medication, so try not to worry. Just make sure you let your doctor know what is going on when you see them.

I hope you don't worry too much and that you start to feel better soon.

Karen is definitely right. Loss of appetite is an ordinary side effect that usually fades in a few weeks, even if we wish it could last a bit longer to help get rid if a few more unwanted pounds. Just try to not stress and enjoy the "stress free"weight loss.
Go ahead and let your doctor know and that way if it lasts too long you can both sit down and work out a plan. Otherwise, I'm sure your doctor would tell you the same thing that Karen did.

Thank you for your responses. I have a follow up in about a month so I will definitely bring up the side effects. But beside the weight loss ive had no other side effects.which is great for me as ive tried a bunch of other med s.keeping fingers crossed
