How do people afford counseling?

Hi Everbody,

Hope everyone is making it through the day okay. I have been looking for a counselor and it's so hard to find a decent, affordable one.

The most inexpensive I have found is $80 per hour. I could afford that maybe once per month. I don't want to go to some young intern. Want someone older than me with good experience.

Any suggestions? Need therapy in a bad way.

My insurance helps me with mine. I see a counselor and a psychiatrist. My counselor is completely covered and I only pay $15 to see my psychiatrist. And, I have the minimum insurance my company offers.

Sometimes counselors will charge on a sliding scale of what you can afford.

Keep searching! It is so worth it.

As already mentioned there are clinics that offer counseling based on a sliding scale. That's how I started getting treatment for my depression. My husband got offered a job with insurance and now that covers my counseling.
A god place to start looking for help is your local health department. They often have information on programs available for people without insurance. You can get some really great therapists that way.

your local mental health centre and or as mentioned your local health department maybe able to refer you. mine did. all i have to do is get a mental health plan done via my doctor to obtain free therapy. hoping this helps.

what if your to depressed to go out and see mental health.. ? and have never really found them to be helpful in the past.

The past doesn't always repeat itself. Keep looking until you find the right therapist. You'll be glad you did.
You have to motivate yourself. Sit yourself down and ask if you like being a captive in your own home. Do you like not having many friends. Do you want the change. If you want it then you can do it.

If clinic; state run programs or Insurance are not the answers you can try Pastorial counceling from a church or a womens support program.

If you are desperate you can call a crisis hot line and see if they have any place they can refer you to.
