I began taking 50mg of Zoloft a year ago. It was steadily increased over the course of 3 months and I am now at 125mg. At the time, I was in the midst of a personal/ family crisis. The crisis is over and is no longer an issue. I have suffered from situational depression and anxiety on and off much of my younger life and have needed to use the medication to gain some relief. I have two children, the youngest is now 4. I have maintained an average weight of 125-130 for years, even after having my last child. I know I am getting older, but I am now at 150lbs., and am completely depressed by all of this weight gain! I work out 3-4 times a week, I watch my diet, I am careful not to eat in excess, and over the past 6 weeks I have even resorted to snacking only on fruits and veggies through out the day if I am hungry. Still the weight is not budging and at this point, my clothes are so tight, I have gone up a size, and now I feel as though getting off the medication would be better than staying on it. I read posts from 2005 that voiced similar complaints about Zoloft, but the prescription drug company claims that only 1% actually gain weight while taking the medication. My doctor is going to encourage me to stay on it, and I am tempted just to go cold turky and wein myself. Anyone have any experience with this.
