Finding the root cause first is the real issue. It is like road rash from a cycle accident. It hurts worse to clean it out, so it can heal. Understand?
That is why at you feeling worse at the moment. Be patient with yourself, give yourself NO timeline. 8 weeks is nothing! It takes as long as it takes.
Listen to the advice of your therapist, do the hard work, journal, use the skills you learn on the way.
ask your therapist about CBT, DBT, Mindfulness and Meditation. These will help you in your journey.
Depression can be a sign of Anger turned inward. this means you will have to learn self-compassion and self-love in order to live a peaceful life. Not a horrible this to do but it could be diffult if you fight it.
I would have a nice long talk with your therapist about how impatient you are and the things mentioned above and see what he/she says. If you are not comfortable with the answer. I would find a new therapist. I am sorry to tell you there is no quick fix.
