DIAGNOSIS-DEPRESSION

---Hi Friends-need your help---you read my first post in "Bipolar" section---AND--the terribly sad situation causing me the grief.   Saw a terrific therapist Wed--( A young Lady----very caring--empathetic...w strong Jungian background--my favorite)----my "official" diagnosis.."General Anxiety Disorder..WITH Major Depression".......wants me on 50 mg Zoloft (after starting w 25mg for one week)----also suggests meditation & once/week therapy--said i am experiencing WORST LOSS ANYONE COULD HAVE----LOSS OF A CHILD (No--not in conventional sense----see my post in BP)------but she KNOWS what i'm going thru.    Now...will Zoloft--meditation & therapy work??     Is Zoloft ok (or any of the SSRIs---???  any good stories)???----Thanks---Rob (I Also have an underactive thyroid--will see an endovrinologist this Thurs---she says that does not help---& Mitral Valve Prolapse.--WITH bouts OF SVT!!...& SEEMING "Chronic Fatigue"...i need to nap..EVERY AFTERNOON....about 2 PM or so-----WHAT A MESS!!!     Another question---IF..IF i need SYNTHROID----it will not make my SVT (supraventricular Tavhycardia WORSE....will it???)----my cardio nurse---she is so nice...said.."NO"...in fact--she said my UNDERACTIVE THYROID could be PART of the CAUSE OF my SVT!!   I knew an OVERACRIVE thyroid could do that--but an UNSERACTIVE ONE, TOO???   PLEASE--SOMEONE....ANYONE...get back....i need some reassurance!!   I , too, have chronic fatigue syndrome.     My cardiologist did not say it--but when i saw his report on the "pay" sheet---he had marked off--"Mitral Valve Prolapse"     "SVT"   &  "Chronic Fatigue syndrome"     But, man---i feel so tired--all the time!      Do you feel like you wanna sleep a lot??   Also--feel like all my energy is drained!    My blood tests all came back "normal"---get back--Thanks -Robert

You are certainly headed in the right direction friend. The doc has set you up on a course to succeed. I can't comment on the SVT question, but I have taken Zoloft . . . took it for about 2 years. It worked very well for me . . . but I did start out with a headache which went away after about 10 days and I would also get a headache if I forgot to take it. But on the whole, I felt very well on it.

So sorry about your loss.

As I stated on another forum, (i think "Panic attacks")--i returned from my 1 wk trip & all went well. My heart was unusually "well behaved"---&-taking the sage advice of one of our members---i held off starting the Zoloft. I still feel a bit "down"--but, the trip was so relaxing & peaceful (& met people who i liked)--did lots of quiet , spiritual reading & meditating--that my depression seems somewhat less. Question---now that i'm back--should i start my Zoloft? (25 mg -first week---then 50 mg)----i've been reading & hearing about some side effects---esp. sexual (don't like sexual side effects)----is there ...."anyone"----who has been helped by Zoloft ---without side effects???    I am a member of the heart and cardiovascular disease forum.  I'm visiting you guys because I guess my paxil isn't doing what it needs to be doing for me lately.  I've been on it for almost a year in September.  I have CAD with 2 stents in my RCA since last August when I was going through changes then.  My cardio asked if I could possiby ride this out and I said no way, I needed help then.  Low and behold I was given Paxil 20 mgs. which did the trick for awhile, however, I am now going through financial problems and I'm about to file for bankruptcy and I feel like such a failure.  I went through this thing that I could have had a heart attack and died, but I survived and received stents.  I was truly grateful and thankful to God for this.  Yet now I wish I could go to sleep and never wake up.  God forgive me for this but its how I feel right now.  Do you have any thoughts about this.  Please feel free to reply!!

    P.S.  I've had chest pain several times and was hospitalized 3 times since stents, all my tests were normal, yet my heart cath showed my 75-80 degree blockage. I'm going nuts here.  HELP!!!!! I will see my cardio in August and tell him of my misery.

Deep breath Maryme . . . you are going through a LOT right now. It sounds like you are sitting on a time bomb sis!! I would be anxious too.

I know it doesn't help much for me to tell you this, but please don't feel like a failure!!! I hate bankruptcy when people are careless and run up bills they have no intention of paying . . . but when a family goes through a major health crisis like yours, that is what banruptucy is meant for.

Please talk to your doctor NOW about your current dose of Paxil not being enough. He can either add another med or increase your dose. Tell him about all the anxiety too because there are different meds for different symptoms.

God knows how you are feeling sis, and hopefully you will be feeling better soon. But that won't help you now . . . don't be afraid to reach out.
