What can a psychologist actually *do*?

Couldn't agree more with it taking our whole lives to get to this level of suckiness: it's not something which happens in a day, month or even year. It takes a lifetime of rejection and failing at things to do that. I haven't got very far into my Mindful Way Through Depression book yet, but one thing it does suggest is that the more times you have experienced a depressive episode, the easier it becomes for the brain to fall into that way of thinking the next time you feel sad, or something goes wrong, etc. I do actually believe that: I think you can 'learn' to be depressed and, like all things which are committed to 'muscle memory', impossible to unlearn as such.

The best thing by far would simply be not to learn what depression is in the first place; but not an option for anybody posting on this board, sadly.

@Karen - Thanks! Same to you! It has been a better day than yesterday. I managed to perk up a bit this afternoon, after a depressed start. I'm feeling tired, though, and it's only 6pm >_>

Don't worry I've been neglecting mine a bit as well, too, Berock :-/ It's going to be an absolute pile of cack. I don't know, I'm just not happy with it. It feels like doing admin work or something, it's that dull. I think I'd have been more comfortable with writing an essay, or something.

I'm just about keeping my head afloat. The waters have receded, but only barely, and I know they can come back in a moment's notice.
