i just feel sad and empty

and i don't want to sit here with those feelings. i want to be happy! i don't really know what to do with myself on the weekends. i know they are supposed to be days of rest and relaxation but i don't seem to be able to find anything that makes me feel good.

i am going out with a friend later but meanwhile i sit here thinking i am not doing any of the right things i need to be doing.

postscript: today is the 9th anniversary of my dad's death. i wonder if i have not fully grieved. how would i know that i have?

I think if you feel at peace with your father's death, you have grieved enough. Some times it takes years, sometimes it goes quicker. But there is no right or wrong with grieving. So I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I hope you have a good time with your friend. I saw a few friends today so that was a big deal to me. I don't go out much. I went down by the river and sat. It was nice...

Display I am so sorry you are still in a dark place. You may feel the loss of your father more on special dates and be fine on other dates depending on your level of grieving. Karen is right, it is when you feel at peace about his passing.

You never answered my question about what skills you are using to keep yourself stable. Sure would like to hear what you do to stay strong.

I am glad you met up with some friends today and wandered down to the river. Did you good I am sure.

Hi Trina / BNotAfraid,

sorry i didn't answer your questions about what skills i use to stay strong. probably the biggest one is to connect to other people. preferably in person but by texting or emailing as well. i have a good number of people i can reach out to, who will connect with me.

my other big thing is prayer. thursday i hit a giant bottom of feeling nutty, on friday morning i decided to just keep turning my crazy thinking over to a HP. i had to do it dozens of times before it actually began to stick.

i also do use journaling. not as much as i once did. but when i am in the mood i do some writing in there. i also have a small "portable journal" which i take to work and use to jot down feelings.

That is awesome Display. Keep using your skills to stay on top of the depression. It will pay off.

That is good hard work Display.. I can only say I am more impressed with now. You are an inspiration for this forum, even though you wallow through the dark times, hit the stone wall, you never stop.

That is one of the great keys to success in depression, never stopping. Never, ever giving up! Great Job!
