Strange things ............
I think con-artists are all around us. The strangest thing happened today. After I got home with Giz this morning, I glanced over at the caller ID and saw there was a call. I turned on the answering machine part and I heard a very brief automated message about hitting 1. I thought it was just the typical automated telemarketer.
Late this morning, I got a call and checked the ID before picking it up. It said "Village of Hoffman". Since there is a close-by village with a similar name, I picked up. There was an automated message saying something about pushing 1 - which I did. Then ... an automated message came on saying something like "the missing person emergency is up". Those were not the exact words ... but I wondered what i the world I was getting this message for. I didn't report anyone missing.
Please Note .... this is a TRUE story.
After a nap this afternoon, I checked the caller ID again and the message I got in the late morning was from the same party as the one earlier in the morning. Then it hit me. Hey, today is Labor Day. The Village Hall is not open. This was a bogus call. It was faked ... being from a Village Hall. Then I wondered, could this be a clever way for a group of thieves to check to see if someone was home on Labor Day week-end? Nothing else makes any sense!!!! What a world we have!
To all ..... please be careful. I think the telephone has become a weapon to some!
To Karen and Jazzy ........
Photo #1 ... is of my old "Bear" - my Elkhound when he was 9-years old and my daughter was 21-years old. I love that picture. She took it herself with one arm around Bear and holding the camera 2' in front of both of them. Bear was a little camera shy ... and he was trying to get away from her when she shot the photo - so you can see that in the photo. By the way, you can see that the coloring of an Elkhound is very much like a lighter colored German Shepard. The muzzle is shorter, but the head and ears are very similar too. He was 48 pounds. A typical male is in the 50 to 60 pound range.
Photo #2 ... is of Gizzy - when he was about 5-months old and nothing but a white fluffy fur-ball with a shiny black nose and big brown eyes. I can picture this as a perfect Christmas present with the puppy in a big red stocking.
Photo #3 ... is of Gizzy - when he was about 15-months old and ready to get into things. The little bit of tearing of his left eye is an ongoing thing I'm afraid, and his hair near his ears isn't pure white anymore. It's bisque in color.
I don't know when I would take a current photo of him. Like I said, I would want to brush him out first - and he needs a good brushing. His Dad's a little lazy these days. The biggest change from the last photo is that his nose isn't shiny black anymore - otherwise, he looks much the same.
Hope your afternoon was more productive than mine. I wasted two hours with a nap ... that was a long one. Hope I can get to sleep by 10pm or so tonight.
I promised Gizzy to get him out for some of this nice weather within an hour or so - maybe even a short walk.
Hope your Labor Day was good.
Gizzy and Rob
