So, in order to get some of the services I need (unemployment, counseling), I need to change my legal residency. I went yesterday to get my driver's license changed from one state to the next.

I need either a birth certificate or a valid passport.

My birth certificate was taken in exchange for my passport years ago. My passport has expired.

I can either wait the 3-4 weeks and pay 100 plus to get my passport renewed, or pay 40 bucks and wait 1-2 weeks and get a certified copy of my birth certificate.

I am a smart woman. You would think I would have dealt with this before now. I moved three months ago. But, apparently, I need to make more trouble for myself.

Also, first prescriptions picked up since losing insurance. Three months of bc would have been 120, but I have a discount card and ended up 55. No change on one month of ambien... 40 bucks. As compared to 40 for BC and 7 bucks for generic ambien. So, I paid roughly twice as much for the same meds.

I am terrified of when it comes time to refill my crohns meds.

And, of course, my muscle relaxers have no refills.

Wow, just typing this made me cry.

I would call and get a refill on the muscle relaxers. I use to take generic soma and they weren't too bad. I imagine that they don't cost a lot. What do you take? Flexeril is another good one.

Have you tried needymeds.org? They might help you since you don't have insurance.

Hang in there Myself, things will start looking up. And a good cry is a good thing now and again.

The copy of the birth certificate is both cheaper and faster, so wouldn't it make sense to go for that first?

I'm constantly putting off things I should be doing, so I'm not gonna judge you for procrastinating. I'm not sure how you paid twice as much for your meds, but the money spent is water under the bridge now. I doubt there's a person in existence who hasn't paid over the odds for something or wasted money in other ways. If I were to tot up how much money I have spent needlessly over the years, it would completely depress me and I'm not a spendthrift by any means.

You need the Crohn's meds though, so I would get the birth certificate ASAP. Switch off the computer and remove all other distractions from your path until it's done, then reward yourself with a nice cup of tea :p

Oh, I got right on it, and ordered the certified birth certificate. Once I get it in the mail, I can go and get my driver's license changed, and then go and sign up for unemployment, and job counseling, and, everything else.

I just happen to live in a state where everything is interpreted literally, and to the greatest extent of the law. An expired passport was fine for changing my license in the past two states I lived in. Not here.

I haven't even begun the process of changing my car over to this state. I drive an old car, and this state had a very rigid registration and inspection process, again, unlike the past two states I was in.

Here, I need: a valid passport or a birth certificate, AND a social security card, AND three pieces of mail from either electric, gas, etc., credit cards, or banks.

I remember, when I was in grad school, my wallet was stolen. Trying to get the Maryland state MVA to issue me a new license was so much fun! I had the birth cert, I had the social security card, but no mail, since I was in the half-life before adulthood still. Finally, my mother unearthed old report cards and luckily they accepted them.

I will check into needymeds. I have a program called Dentrite, that does certain percentages off. But I know my crohns meds before are 500 bucks.

As far as the muscle relaxer, the script has run out and the pharmacy won't refill over state lines. I already tried that before the insurance ended, and the doctor wouldn't/pharmacy couldn't. I will either need to see a doctor and get a new script or go without.

You are in a bureaucratic pickle!!! I too have let things expire and then go thru twice the hassle and expense to get it back. For awhile, I was afraid they's take my library card away-lol-I NEVER returned on rtime altho they sat in the car as I whizzed past the library. Oy vey!!

Meds- pparx.org or needymeds are great programs. I got my seroquel free (400/month) I really hope you can get it all settled soon. Just what ya don't need-more stress!!

The manufacturer does NO financial assistance. There is a co-pay assistance in place, but no program for the uninsured.

Needymeds discount card looks as if it can help.

Well, pparx will not help me, because bf makes too much money.

But needymeds does, with some discounts. Looks like a month of my crohns meds will be 120 or so. Not great but necessary.

And, bonus, finally found a renewal on my muscle relaxer. It was hidden in my queue in my prescription list, since I requested a refill.

Still panicking, but more manageable now. Small victories.

Also found free/low-cost clinics for iF I need a doctor between now and when I get other insurance. Still anxious, but at least now I feel more prepared to be chronically ill with no insurance.

Emailed job counselor about wait for birth certificate, so she knows why paperwork is held up.

I have noticed that I tend to lose personal nouns when stressed, depressed or panicky. I need to stop that.

I am so happy that you found some help and got things in motion. How long before you get insurance? I hope it is soon. It is so difficult to obtain the things we need at times. But it looks like things are getting better for you. For that, I am very happy.

don't know if this will help but here our Catholic Church has a ministry that provides free meds. But income limits on that program too-so sorry...I know crohn's is very painful and I hope you can work that opur quickly.

try to say as calm as possible. Use your breathing exercises and talk walks. The more upset you get the more chance the chrons will act up.

Karen- No insurance until I get a job or Obamacare, whichever comes first. Thanks for the needymeds link-that was helpful. My asacol is wicked expensive, and I have been taking it for a decade now, with no generic equivalents. The pharma company is small, and does not have program to help people. You are a sweet presence in your support of all of us-thanks!

Thanks Mags, for your advice. I am experiencing the "household" limits fairly often as I look for medical and counseling help. I am not working, but BF is, and he makes enough to disqualify me for some things, but he isn't helping with my meds or appointments or bills. I am in a waiting pattern until the birth certificate comes through with a lot of stuff. Also, there are so very many more people who need far more help than I do. Like BIL, right? -sigh- Thanks for your upbeat concern.

No worries, BNot, I have been breathing like a champ. Doing imaging and relaxation. The best part of yesterday was getting into the sauna after my swim and then focusing. My colon has been up and down this week, but the fibro is being weird, likely from stress.

Yah, JB, welcome back. You do know what I mean. I go to Walgreens and will check it out. I take too many meds. -sigh-

Better today. Going to see what my muscle relaxer will cost and then to do laundry. A new Asian grocery opened up and I will check in there and see if they have any good deals on veg or meat.

LOL I love it Karen...have not heard that one before.

Quiet day here pat did his pre-op stuff today. We are due at hospital at 6:30 am Tues. which means get up at 5 and leave at 5:30... oh well, he won't have much time to get all freaked. And no more gallstone attacks!!

Well, my brain is a vast wasteland tonite so I'll sign off now. See y'all manana

Oh my goodness, no, no offense taken! Never heard that expression, so I laughed.

Brain has been frazzled since Thursday, so been taking it very easy. Still a little foggy this am, missing words and tummy feeling out of sorts. But, better than yesterday.
