Hello everybody.Have been feeling down the last couple of weeks so i went to see the Doc today.I have been on 20mg of citalopram for about six months.I could slowly feel the depression coming back (on and off).My doc put me on 50mg of Pristiq which is suppose to be in the same family as effexor. She said that i should not have any withdrawal pain because it has part of the citalopram (serotonin) in it plus( norepinephrine) .In other words it will work on two parts of the brain. Having gone through withdrawal before plus, the time it takes for your body to adjust to the new meds i must say that i am not anxious for tomorrow morning.Have any of you tried Pristiq or effexor and what are your thoughts? Thank you.

Hi PERFECT TIME,

I have taken both effexor and pristiq. I took effexor for probably 15 years. When it went generic, the doctor put me on pristiq. I have been taking that about four years maybe... I liked both of them. I take 100mg of pristiq every day. I have not had any side effects or problems with it. I take abilify too. They work good together I guess.

I went immediately from the effexor to the pristiq. Actually I was taking them both at the same time for about a week. The transition went really well.

I hope that the pristiq works good for you. Keep me posted.

Thank you Karen.My doc says to stop the Citalopram and start the Pristiq tomorrow morning without any overlape of the two meds.I hope this works.Thanks again.

Hello Karen.Just want to let you know that i have been taking Pristiq for 4 days and i feel pretty good. I am really impressed with Pristiq.This is the first time that a depression drug has had no side effects (yet) and makes me feel healthy.I am a Canadian and I have been told the that our drug plan does not cover Pristiq but it will cover Effexor.You have taken both so,can you tell me what the difference is between the two drugs?Thank you .

To me they are so much alike, I guess they are close cousins. I feel the same on the pristiq as I did on the effexor, they both work on my depression really well.

I hope that you do well on the pristiq. If you can't afford it, check and see if the company will help you. Sometimes they will give you a years worth free. But if you know that you can take the effexor and that you can afford it, I would try it... I am just happy you are feeling better.

I had no side effects on either medication... Except I did gain some weight, but I think that was more from my fibromyalgia and my age.
