Receiving disability for depression/anxiety

All you can do is try. I am thinking about applying again, I was denied too. I have fibromyalgia too. But I think it is worth trying again, it can't hurt anything.

I don't think it is a losing battle, especially if you have doctors behind you. Give it a try...

I have thought about it, but not seriously. I am too much of an over-achiever, I guess. I cannot imagine not working. I even got a little snippy when an office worker wanted to know if I would like to be coded as disabled. It wasn't her fault.

Many people report a long battle.

I would, it isn't that much. Seeing their doctors, filling out forms and waiting for a hearing... I know it is easier said than done, but they make it difficult so people feel the way you do and don't apply. Right now we have a democrat in office. When I applied before we had a republican in office. Therefore not much funds were going out. I think now would be a better time to apply while things are a little looser...

My name is Patti and I am new to this board. I've had fibromyalgia for years along with Chronic anxiety, and many other conditions which I will address later. I worked very hard in Mgmt and loved my job. I have always suffered with depression it seems...although I think I was about 18 when medicated. I would feel better, think I was cured and go off of them...LOL

Anyway to answer you SSDI question YES you can get Social Security on the first try. I had pages of ailments from disc disease, migraines, spinal stenosis, panic attacks and my reason for approval was "Chronic anxiety with multiple conditions". I don't think I even filed for that. You do, however need a good Physician that will back you up and a few years of records showing you were being cared for by a Dr.

I got my SSDI on the first try, no questions asked, I did not lie. Just tell the truth as if it were your very worst day. Because lets face it, we normally have more bad days than good, unfortunately. Don't try to sound intelligent unless you are...LOL. The forms are not that bad. They ask you the same questions but word them differently. Do not worry about your handwriting. I heard of one lady that typed out her application and the judge said he could employ her immediately as a secretary. As I have aged and don't write often, my handwriting varies.

been 12 years since i have worked. i am on a disability pension but not in the states, in australia. i was put on it for severe mental illness. my psychiatrist filled in the forms-submitted them via mail, billed the government and he firmly said that in 14 days you will receive a letter stating you are on disability. and it was exactly 14 days and that letter arrived. the rules and regs have masively changed since then. it is about medical doctors reports, specialist letters, government doctors and reviews. they make it hard for genuine people, thus i say never give up.
