Hi everybody,

I am learning this keyboard. And yes Rob, it is smaller than the kindle. 7 inches I believe. So it isn't as easy as a regular keyboard, but it is easier than the littler one on the kindle.

Your seminar sounded interesting. And some very good topics. I am happy that you are happy you went.

Michele, You sound so happy. I am very happy for you...

I hope that everybody is having a good day. I am tired, but that is not unusual.

Good morning .........

   JB1 ..... glad you finally got to go to the mansion yesterday. I can kick myself for, years ago, missing going to the Biltmore Estate when I was briefly in Ashville, NC.

   I have a hard time just lumping together contemporary or modern design. Mies, for example, has a beautiful simplicity about his designs, but much of it is cold - my opinion! There is a Mies dining chair I have thought for most of my life - is an absolute classic, but an original is kinda pricey!

   I have a fondness for scandanavian (so-called) contemporary furniture - and do have a wall system that now is 40-years old and was designed by Paul Cadovius (I think - been a long time)! Nice cleanlines but all wood - no steel and glass!

   I love Tudor residences. My x-wife now has an old Tudor home (what did I do wrong?)! Years ago, I wanted to buy an old Sears home from the 1920's. So much character - hard to believe Sears & Roebuck actually was in house design for a while.

   My favorite house design is "Falling Water" by Wright. He was a small man with a huge ego ..... but I really like most of his work - my favorite.

   I did one house design in 1980 that had some Japanese flavor to it and another house about 10-years ago that had a lot of Indonesian research and was actually built there. And one dental clinic in a North suburb of Chicago that was SO prairie-style.

   Yep .... Frank Lloyd got to me!!!!

   To many, if not most, "Falling Water" may seem a little cold with its' contemporary projections and cantilevers - and concrete/glass materials. To me, it transcends style - and it's my favorite combination of materials and setting. I have a huge photo of it framed sitting over my small FP in the Living Room .... and below it is a very fine model of a 1937 Horch - a typical 1930's luxury car of its time .... built at the same time Wrights "Falling Water" was built - showing the huge difference in style of the two.

   SEE ....... you got me started!

   Seems like another nice day in these parts. I'll actually be going to see my oldest daughter and family today - to take them out for an early dinner. It was her birthday 4-days ago.

   And my youngest should be calling me tonight. It's a family day ... sort of!!!!

Morning all.

Worn out this weekend! We went to a lacrosse game at my old alma mater yesterday, did the tailgate and whole nine yards. It is something I love to do. Both cars are outfitted with camp chairs, and I have a tiny grill and all the necessary accessories laid out in a box, ready to go. We had a grilled Asian-style pork tenderloin, Asian coleslaw, and some green tea/ginger lentil spread. Our team won, 12-6.

Afterwards, went to Penzey's spices (if anyone knows their stores). We were out or almost out of a lot of things. Their spices are better and cheaper than anywhere else. Then a few more stops at stores down there, and home. I am sunburned, as usual.

Had some anxiety last night that kept me awake for a bit. Unless I get someone to speak for me, getting through the system might be hard. Despite my experience, they *could* be unwilling to consider me, since I will have to go through an alternate assessment. I am going to try to certify with theatre, since it is by far the easiest for me. Man, even typing has my blood thumping and my breathing shallow.

Today, cleaning and cooking, and planting herbs, and starting to practice crocheting. I have decided to try this, for I need an outlet. I have a nice pattern to follow for a scarf.

KAren-so glad you have a better keyboard. I used to hate trying to type on my Ipad. It cramped my hand.

JB-good call on a museum. Kept on going! Keeping your mind active is as important as keeping the brain going.

Michelle-I know what you mean about the kids. Some need so much help, and others will move forward whether you were there or not. Love on your daughter--it's exciting when they move forward, and sad as well.

Rob-question. BF's nephew is graduating this spring, and is going to college for architecture. He had architecture classes in high school. He is an only, the only grandchild on both sides, and has every need met. What would be a good present for the kid? I am sorry to hear the latest group was not as helpful as you wanted. Some people are in different places in their process. And enjoy the daughters!

   Always interesting stuff to eat! Do you ever have just meat 'n potatoes?

   about the BF's nephew ....... Whether or not he has any affinity for Frank Lloyd Wright, Wright IS a powerful figure in American Architecture.

   The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation does have a website and a cataloge of some cool things. Some suggstions:

1) a framed reproduction of one of his window designs (as little pricey - but very nice. I have two of them. They are beautiful and historic as well)!

2) a "Sprite" letter opener - you have to see it (reasonable price)!

3) a number of books (vary by price)!

4) a video/dvd of "Falling Water" .... inspirational and modest price!

   I could also say ...... find something else to go into! It is and more importantly will be more of a declining profession in the next 20+ years.

   Even 20-years ago, it would be very common that an Architect would find a different field to go into (often sales) by the time he/she reached 40+. It does not pay what most people picture! It rarely pays what a union carpenter makes! Sad - but true!!!!! And all for a combination of 8-years of school/apprenticeship + passing a 32 to 36-hour (7-part)exam.

   It pays to go into the field with your "eyes open"! And you only go into it if you love the work!!! Actually, in my area, a local H.S. teacher with 15+ years makes about $20K a year more money - and have a good pension! Pensions by employers - are not very common for Architects!

   I still miss it though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

   Good luck with your certification goals. It's sounding kind of political! Hope not!

Rob, I went to Laura Ingall Wilder's homestead where she lived with her husband. Her daughter had a Sears and Rowbucks house built down the road for her parents. It's actually a charming little cottage. I was really surprised. She did have them rebuild the chimney several times.

I love Tudors! My grandparents lived in a turor built in the 1800s. I loved that house! My grandfather liked to buy interesting houses. They owned a home that was built with all of the closets sloping down to the basement. I was scared of that one.

I feel kind of lazy. With all of the surgeries and hospital stays I have gotten so behind on my housework. I'm dehydrated and exhausted. I just can't get caught up. I hired someone to come in Tuesday and clean for me. I feel like a bum but I think this is probably the best/safest method for me.

Rob-thanks for the ideas. I will run them past the gent. He is this kid's only uncle, and feels he should get him a really nice graduation present. But no idea what, since we see them maybe every three years or so.

AV-it's good to hire someone, especially with the knee the way it is. No worries-it's for the best.

I just got news on Facebook that a guy I went to college with died suddenly yesterday. He was 46, a real sweetie, and a very charismatic actor with decent dance skills, and a lovely voice. He was turning his life around, as well, and had a new husband.

I am more deeply reminded that tomorrow is the anniversary of my sister's death.

We are so mortal, despite our loves, hates, anxieties, and fears.

Hope everyone is having as good a day as possible!

Little stressed and anxious today. Did some things that needed doing, which is good. Made a list, and did everything on it I can do at work.

I am going to meditate for five minutes and hopefully calm down my mind and my thoughts.

Good morning .......

   It's not a happy day for at least several of you today. I hope it gets better .... like the job market in NY ..... and mixed memories of the recent past and people lost.

   I've lost three people (sort of) in the past 4-months. My Mother, in January, was really a steady loss over a numbers of years because of her dementia ... and the way dementia robs relatives slowly of the person they love.

   My cousin, Dave, was an almost impossible surprise - because everything went so fast for him - and for his family and friends watching his death. His quick demise from cancer left me with thinking of my own past childhood - and of how incredibly fast life goes by.

   And the most recent, Susan, a person I barely knew - but admittedly wanted and hoped to get to know better this year ... and her huge dog that was such a big part of her existance. I quickly started to see myself and Gizmo in that same situation or crossroad of life coming soon. It depressed the hell out of me - for awhile.

Maybe a much happier update:

   Igloo (or Iggy as he is called) may have a better prognosis on his liver condition, does have two club members now wanting to adopt him and other good and caring things have happened for him.

   One of the key members of the Samoyed Rescue Group started a "Facebook" page for Igloo - including respectful notations of his owner, Susan, who just passed away two weeks ago.

   There will be a fund-raiser coming up that will be for purchasing a bench (for the dog park that Susan/Iggy used to go to) an will have both of their names carved into the bench! Susan would have loved it!

This is not to "minimize" the sadness today that exists:

   I received an e-mail early today, found just minutes ago when turning on the computer. It was from the RN who facilitates the Re-occurring Cancer Group I go to every two weeks.

   Darlene, a woman I have mentioned here from that group, who always has an incredibly good outlook on her near hopeless life .... did pass away this morning.

   It was from metastisized breast cancer .... but it had spread so much in recent years, that she was on an oxygen tank all the time. And it had spread to the bones, several organs and her head.

   The last time we had a support group meeting, around 11-days ago, was the first time she had difficulty smiling. Her blood/oxygen level then was down to 82 when at rest ... the lowest I've ever heard of.

   I know this is just part of life - but it's hard to find any positives from this part of life for me.

   Hope you had a day filled with some positives ..... "Myself"!

Prayers going your way Rob.

It is sad to lose people we have gotten close to. Darlene is at peace now. Sometimes it is a blessing if somebody is suffering, yet it is still a huge loss. My thoughts are with you.

It does seem there is a lot of sadness on the forum right now. I hope we all feel better soon.

I did get out today. A GOOD friend took my husband and myself out to dinner. I was very anxious because I rarely get out, but it is spring now so I have to get use to it. I was glad I went

I hope we can all get past our fears and anxieties.

Oh my goodness,

I am so sorry for the last bit of my post earlier. I was falling asleep as I typed. I just read it and I thought that I erased all the garbled stuff but I guess not. I am still very tired but it is a good tired. I am sorry that I have not been here for sometime, things are moving along so fast at this point. Well I am sorry that everyone has had it so rough as of late, I feel bad that things are going so good for me. I am strange. I pray that everyone has better tomorrow's and better tonights.
