NEW LEXAPRO AND ELAVIL

Hi iam Deb i just had a question iam on lexapro for depression 15 mg a day and i also take 20 mgs elavil for chronic pain does any one know if it is best to take them toghter at bed time or one in morning and other at night /THANKS DEB

Hi, and welcome. The only thing I can say is that I am on amitryptline (same thing) but not for pain. It's for depression and helps me sleep. As for pain, I don't know about that!

Welcome to the forum!!

I take both and I always take the Elavil (amitriptyline) at bed time . . . but I have been trying to see if the lexapro is better taken at night or in the morning, as I have insomnia. The Elavil was prescribed for the insomnia and worked well for a a few months . . . but am having trouble again and started taking the lexapro in the morning to see if that would help.

As for as I know, you can take them together or at different times. See what works best for you. A pharmacist might be a great help with this question.

Hi all, been a while since i posted on these boards.......

i have no idea about weather or not you can take them together, but i agree with AlwaysRosie. i'd give the pharmacist a call.
I was put on Elavil (amitriptyline) three days ago and it's done wonders for the pain!!! unfortunately, i does make me sleepy. so it was recommended i take them as soon as i get home from work so as to let it wear off a bit before i have to be back to work. (not able to do my job while i feel sleepy)
