Hi everyone,
Okay this may just be me but I have also found other people online which also verify that taking codeine can actually cancel out the effects of an anti-depressant and I am sure this is the case for me as I was taking roughly around 6 x 30/500 co-codamol per day for back pain and I am on day 15 of taking 150 mg of Sertraline but I noticed if I went a day or two without taking codeine then I would feel a lot more with it and stable so please be careful with what you are taking.
I think that it is okay to take it everynow and again and I am sure a lot of people out there don't have a problem with it at all but I know I definitely did and now I am giving it a few days without the codeine and I already feel more stable.
I think it is because codeine is pretty much seen as a depressant and any drug that can alter brain chemicals can interact with your anti-depressants but just be careful as it has really
opened my eyes.

Yeah I cannot believe it now as it does make so much sense but there is so little awareness about
it.
I used to take them with Paxil and I didnt feel any adverse effects but that was perhaps because I had already been taken Paxil for a long time and the tablets were in my system and working by then but because this time I have noticed when the anti-depressants are working or not because I have been feeling so bad.
I cant assume that it will have the same affect on everyone who takes the two but I seriously think more research needs to be done into the interactions as lets face it, how can they be sure what is going to interact with anti-depressants when they dont even know for sure what anti-depressants actually do to the chemicals of the brain.
Be careful peeps

I suggested in a previous post NOT to take the pain med if you did not have to. Also to ask you doc about
cymbalta, it works well for pain and depression.

Yeah I know and I think I only took a couple but now I have not had any for like 48 hours and I do notice a difference in the clarity of my mind.
I still think the Setraline are still yet to kick in but it has only been 15 days so that is pretty early really isnt it?

Yes, however, I understood part of your issue to be able to handle your pain and depression at the same time. You need to discuss this with your doctor before you take anymore pain medicine.

I haven't noticed any issues. I have been taking the codeine-based meds for many years now, in small doses at night. I started anti-depressants 2 plus years ago. During the day, I use tramadol for pain killers.

Hey Myself,
Yeah its a bit weird as I took codeine when I was on paxil and I was find but some people consider codeine as a depressant and then we are taking an anti-depressant so it kinda does make sense in that respect but I am sure it is a case by case basis though.
