New chapter on Lexapro 10 mg from today

Hi Everyone,

So after being on Zoloft for a month, I went back to doctors today and told him its not showing any signs of working at all and it anything I feel worse and more spaced out then I did off them so I requested Lexapro after doing much research online to see which anti-depressant would work hopefully quicker and which one I could switch to pretty much straight away without tapering.

So I took my first one about 15 minutes ago and now have fresh hope for the future after giving Zoloft a fair amount of time to work.

I know I am most likely going to feel a bit crappy for the next week or so but hey you never know :)

Thanks everyone for being there for me and I hope to be able to give something back one day.

I think Lexapro works rather fast, but I haven't taken it, there are others here who do and they will probably chime in too.

Hopefully you wont feel foggy or disassociation. I think your head will feel clear. I have heard good reports on it from members here. It will most likely be subtle.

I am doing good. Just got a new computer. It was a great mother's day gift from my husband. I am so happy!!!

I think what Jamie meant is that it may have been strong for him. Everybody is different. I tried wellbutrin and I needed a high dose of it to help with the depression, but I couldn't tolerate a high dose of that particular medication. Where other people can. It is unique to all of us. I look forward to you sharing how it is going. Give it some time, before you know it, hopefully you will be feeling better.

I take Lexapro after being on Zoloft for quite sometime, I just saw my doctor last week and I went from 10 mgs to 15 mgs(he said I could do 20mgs and if I had problems I could go down to 15mg, but I decided to start with 15mgs for a few weeks then go up to 20mg), I did ask my doctor what was the "therapeutic level" for lexapro and he said it is typically 20 mgs but for some it can be 30 mgs.

I know lexapro has helped greatly, I don't know if I see quite the results as I saw with Zoloft, but I think one thing I loved about zoloft was I lost weight on it, and Lexapro has not given me that same result. I seem to worry much less than I did before on Lexapro I'm almost at a numb stage which my doctor said can be normal. I wish the best for you, I wish it wasn't so hard finding the right medication.

Sorry I havent been ignoring you all I promise. First couple of days on these new tablets were tough and included a hospital visit as my head was so cloudy and I felt so dazed and out of it but last night and well this morning have looked a little bit more promising. My head actually feels a bit numb right now like I cant feel anything which can be just as scary but I am seeing it as a possible side effect of the new tablets and I am sure it will pass and my brain will get back to the way it was before.

I hope all of you are feeling okay? If I had one wish then I would wish a serene and happy mind for each and everyone on of you :)

Hey Karen thank you, I just had my first CBT session today although it is only half an hour long which is quite quick but she was really nice and very good at listening which helped. I feel spaced out yet again and foggy but I just have to keep going and hope it will clear as soon as tablets start working.

I need to go for long walks but living in London is not that appealing for long walks as all there is around is noise and people, must admit I havent had the motivation to go out a lot of the time because of feeling dreamy 90% of the time. I am praying that these new tablets work sooner rather than later so I can at least get back to being the person I was before. I used to be such a fun happy go lucky guy who was always trying to make people laugh and smile but now I am this shell who just wants to stay in all day and sleep until things get better.

I am so scared that I wont ever be the person I once was but I have to keep hoping, I actually have been doing that mindfulness although I had not done it for the past few days but I did it today, I found it hard to focus as my anxiety was quite high so it is very off putting and makes it hard to relax.

Did you ever feel or think that you was never going to be the same way again Karen?

Yeah I see what you mean Karen about becoming a new somebody but right now I am constantly self checking how I feel and it seems to make me feel even more spaced out and not with it. I keep worrying that it is something more insidious like I am losing my mind but every single time I test for depression and anxiety, it shows up really high.

I really think I need the tablets to work and give me a foothold at least so I can do other things in my life to help myself as right now I feel too out of it to lead a normal life.

Isnt mindfulness the same as meditation or is it different? x

I know I keep thinking that but it just seems that the anxiety is louder than my actual thoughts right now if that makes sense, I mean I know my thoughts are normal and rational but its the spaced out and disconnected feeling that just overwhelms me and I cant think straight or get any relief.

Every now and again I get this brief few seconds of joy where I feel normal and I get this blissful feeling inside and I automatically think yes I am going to be okay but that moment is short lived and anxiety takes over again.

This is something I am convinced the anti-depressants will help the most with as I felt better in the past when I have taken Paroxetine and Prozac but for now I have to be patient and wait for them to kick in. I cannot wait until I just wake up one day and feel so much more normal, I will be so thankful.

Chotti, I think it is so cool that you meditate. It helps me so much with anxiety and mindfulness.

You are so welcome. Know we are here for you when you need us. I think what you are doing is smart. We can overthink things so easily. The more you do that, the more you notice it, eventually it is all you think about. Giving it a rest is good. Work on the positive now.
