Bear with me for a minute but .......... some doctors have terrible bedside manner. Where i think that applies here is for your doctor to say to you "it shouldn't hurt that bad"!
And forget about missing your daily accomplishment to battle depression. You're healing! You should need some extra bed rest. In time, you'll be back to your old routine - and everything will be good. Until then though ... it's time to heal!
A month ago, my (good) support group talked a lot about the reactions of different doctors - or bedside manner. It's amazing how many of them seem to be so robotic in actions - and emotionless! I think it often goes with the territory.
Try not to take offense to it! Or to allow your imagination to promote feeling guilty. I know that's easier said than done - by try.
The positives are the results from the ER. And I don't see anything wrong with going back to the doctor and asking for more relief from your pain.
I know, by experience, that the pain can vary a great deal on many types of physical problems. While my own doctor rarely asks, my Nurse Practitioner always asks how my pain is - every time I go in. The concern shown makes a difference to me. Hopefully, your doctor was having a bad day when you asked her about the pain meds.
Feel better soon.
