Chotti, my grandfather's neighbors call my dad all the time about the horses being loose. Dear old grandad sometimes forgets to make sure all latches are secure. He still has the horse I learned to ride with; he's a sweet tempered quarter horse. Grandfather rode him in team roping events. Red, the horse, is now in his 30s. He spends his daying just about whatever he wants. Lol

The job interview went well. They would like me to get something from my dr detailing my restrictions. Hoping to have that in the next few days. I'm excited to work again. Today will include a visit to the rheumatologist and not much else. We are having thunderstorms today. Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning .......

   Another evening of light thunderstorms. Except for in the NW .... it's nice to see so much green.

   AV ....... glad the interview went well. Hope it gets even better.

   Chotti ..... you weren't a figure of our imagination!!!! Good to see you back. So the great NW needs a power-washing season. In my neck of the woods, it is said that there is the winter season - then the construction season! But the only cougars we have here in driveways ... are the ones with 4-tires!

   HT ......... how many days?

   HeartfeltOne ........ no need to think upbeat when coming to the "daily"! We're here to listen and help if we can.

   Hawkeye2 ....... welcome ...... and that's even meant if you're an Iowa Hawkeye in Big Ten country!

   Cass ....... thanks for the thoughts - and it's amazing how good food can be when it stays down!

   Michele ........ ya never said a thing about my coveralls!!!! Didja have a little good "me" time last night. We all need that.

   Karen .......... since mushroom season is over - what's next?

  

Notes:

   Boy do I have a lot of laundry to do! I'm gonna go to the store this afternoon to pick-up some things i normally don't have. It worked yesterday with the Lobster Bisque. I do have some deviled eggs and some cherry tomatoes - so with some havarti cheese and thin rye added to those, I might be able to eat tonight too.

   I see my Nurse Practitioner this morning and hopefully can put together a new game plan for treatment - after an echo-cardiogram in the next few days.

   Have a fun day.

Sorry for not welcoming the new folks. My sleep was rather rudely disturbed by a very hungry cat at 3 am so my brain is stumbling along. Not sure if its the storm or what but my back is proving to be a big problem today.

I think a lot of depressed people are givers. We like to help and take care of others. I'm not sure if being givers made us depressed (from giving to those who use us continuously) or being depressed made us givers (greater sympathy for others' suffering and struggles bcause we have been there). Its a struggle because it shouldn't be a bad thing to care and want to be helpful but when we are used it really hurts. Personally, I'm trying to find a balance. I don't want to quit beung caring but I am tired of one sided relationships. To me, someone is toxic if their behavior affects you in a negative manner. That can span many actions.

Rob, my grandfather never got really sick when he was going through his fight with cancer. He was embarrassed to carry his oxygen in public. While he didn't get nauseated he did lose some of his sense of taste. We had a "taste party" to figure out what he could taste and what tasted good. It was fun and very informative for him. He hard time with sweet foods. He ate more spicy pastas and mexican food. People were amazed that someone doing chemo could eatthe foods he did. Your lobster bisque reminded me of how much he loved tamales. Eat what you can and when you can. I hope you are staying very hydrated. The heat and nausea really dehydrate.

Rob, Next is strawberries and blueberries. Then blackberries and apples. I reap all the wild fruit I can...

But when the blackberries and apples are in season, it means summer is almost over so no hurry on them. We usually go to a strawberry farm and pick berries. The blueberries are in the woods with the bears...

UA... Maybe even just vitamin C would help at the moment. But yes, a good multivitamin helps. There is also something I think called zycam that helps if you are coming down with something. Could be allergies too, that mimics a cold...

AV... With all that you always have going on, you always seem to have your poop in a group... You know what I want to say... lol... I am proud of you!

   Your paragraph #2 is the thought for the month!!!!

   So right about the water. I'm bad at it! I went thru this (not eating/losing weight) two years ago while on one of my chemos. "Ben & Jerry's" broke my disgust with food then. And then I was OK except for my clothing sizes.

   I'm looking for that food that will break the cycle now. And I'll take a prescription if my NP can do that for me this morning.

Rob & Happy Turtle: Thanks for welcoming me to the daily thread no matter how I'm feeling. I guess sometimes I like reading through the happy post and don't want to crash in with something that is not happy but I will work on that and it's nice to be welcome.

Angelic_Victory: I agree with what you've said I do enjoy helping others, I always have and I know mine came from knowing what it feels like to not have anyone to help me when I needed it or needed someone to be there so I never want anyone else to feel that way. Growing up without family made me a little more understanding of others pain and needs. I don't want to change who I am but I'm also tired of one sided relationships, of being used, always giving and never getting any type of support at all. I'm so use to not getting support that it's actually hard for me to reach out, I hold in more and more as time goes by. I'm glad that you are trying to find a balance that's a step in the right direction and it shows good self esteem. I need to do that.

Yes, Rob, I had a great time. Actually too good!! I ended up calling my kids to come get us about 10. No way I was driving!! So I did the responsible thing. And that's why I don't drink. I only go out about three times a year and cut loose. I'm paying for it today! Lol

So, I'm going to be lazy and watch Deadliest Catch all day!!

Hello all:

It's great to see the posts of good days. I seem to have bad mornings and even bad days and ok evenings. I take my meds before bedtime so it's not like they are fading in the morning. I hate that I feel down when I should have energy and trying to get out of my bed/house.

Advice?

   Befer they started dat commercial, I said "hang-on , hang-on - ah need mah International Harvestor cap." Den - dey wouldn't let meh wear mah Hooters cap! Oh .... shoot!!!!! Don't member what kind of cap ah was wearin!

   Say young lady .... yeh better watch dem margaritas!!!!!! Good thang yous got home safe'n sound!

To Hawkeye02 and HeartfeltOne ...........

   Sometimes we use a little silly fun here - just to keep things a little light! I excercise my sense of humor often - and it's not to cover up reality. Cause, sometimes things just suck - and no use in sprinkling a little sugar on it!

   I try to use a sense of humor to change my attitude of the day - or of that timeframe. Never intentionally - to mask how I'm really feeling but to try to change my mindset of how I'm feeling. It's one of the things i do.

   Most of us have different or other ways of dealing with a lousy day. But - we all have them ..... and it's no excuse not to come here cause you need to complain a little. We all do!!!

There is some better medical news here - am trying to digest a lot from my one-hour meeting with my Nurse Practitioner today. She is a jewel of a medical person - the least i can say right now!

Gotta get my Gizmo outside. Looks like my A/C is out - and it's supposed to be 74-degrees out right now. How sweet!!!!!

Hawkeye, I really think you should talk to your dr about the lack of energy. He may recommend a different medicine schedule, diet change, or it couldbe something else. I'm always fatigued but that's because of constant pain, kids, and other health stuff. How much sleep are you getting? Do you wake a lot at night? My ex was always tired and it turned out he had sleep apnea. To know the best way to help we need to know the exact cause.

Humor keeps me from getting caught in the downward spiral. I work at redirecting my negative self talk. If I'm thinking, for instance, that I'm a bad person then I will say Hey, at least you aren't one of Micheal Vick's dogs! I keep in mind that there are always people that have it worse.

Anxiety wise you need to find a way to slow thungs down. The breathing, imagining relaxing muscles, or mentally trying to control outward expressions of anxiety all are making you slow the thought pattern down. If counting or doing math in your head or whatever helps you then go for it. Its all about what helps you.

Karen, I don't know about being put together. Some days I feel like I'm a dinghy in the ocean trying to stop up a hole with feathers. If I'm going to sink then I'm going down with a purple feather boa. /snap.

AV: thanks for the helpful info. I have talked to my doctor weekly about medicine and how it has affected me. He says to just give it time. I hope my mornings can be better, my appetite better and my energy level up. All my meds where supposed to bring back my appetite not kill it.

The anxiety thing with breathing and numbers helps, but it's hard to focus on it and not on the physical symptoms. Goes back to paragraph 1.

I'm 34 and have had bouts of depression or about 10 years now. Not much before. Just trying to level things off rather than having these real low points.

Does anyone do anything before bed time that helps sleep sounder and get up better with more energy and less anxiety?

Rob: Thanks for sharing with me a little about how everyone deals with a lousy day differently. The worse I feel the more I tend to isolate or try to keep my feelings inside, I'm working on it. I do have times where I try to use humor to kind of lift my mood, sometimes it's good to have a good laugh even when you don't feel like laughing and I'll tell anyone an episode of Seinfeld can lift a mood a little.

I do meditation before I go to sleep. It helps me a lot. It also helps me to fall asleep faster.

Good morning ..........

   Thank God it's going to be nice nearly all week here. Confirmed - my A/C is out - and I don't have enough time in the next several days to be sitting here waiting for a repair person.

   When I took Giz out yesterday 6pm, I thought it was 74 outside. It was comfy but it was 80-degrees out ... so it must have been pretty warm inside if 80 felt nice and cool.

Medical stuff:

   After meeting with my Oncology NP yesterday, I feel better. She is so good. She mentioned a prescription that she could fill out for me for my eating problems ... but said it's really a female hormone that's used at times with menstrual cycles!

   Sorry - this is getting deep ..... and I'm not joking! And for those of you who don't know, I'm not female and I'm way past that "time of the month" - if i was a female. Trouble is - she told me that hormone can be dangerous for a cancer patient, so she'de like me to keep trying different kinds of semi-exotic or seldom-eaten foods to bring back my appatite!

   It worked two years ago when i was going thru this. And, she's not concerned that my weight loss is close to 20-pounds so far. No panick button yet!!!!

   I went over a ton of stuff with her - and for the first time, I now have a tentative plan for the next "two chemo's". It gives me some hope for a QOL for the next year or so. And by then, there might be another chemo available to take - that is not a clinical trial. Bottom line is hope might be restored!!!!!

   I have an echo cardiogram this Friday - that i do need to pass in order to proceed with the next chemo - one that I've never been on before! If all goes well, my chemo starts next Wednesday - and it's only 2+ miles from my house.

   The clinical trials at the U.of C. are considered phase I and II clinical trials ....... and I just found that phase III clinical trials are the only trials that aren't seriously experimental!

  You know ...... sometimes things are just too complicted!!!!!

P.S. - yesterdays food ...... 6-halves of deviled eggs + 16-cherry tomatoes + one blueberry smoothy!!!! Better than usual lately!!!!

Rob, I'm so happy for you. As much as you've kept upbeat for us, I know it had to be hard for you with all of this. Maybe having some good news will help with your appetite. Don't go too long without ac. Its too easy to get dehydrated.

Michele, sorry, we are enjoying a nice cooler snap, too. Its in the high 70's and slightly cloudy. Bernie really would love to get out and sniff sticks. That's always what he's doing when I catch him. Mosquitos are terrible here. For some reason the city isn't spraying for them and with all those storms at the end of summer it was ideal for these blood suckers.

Last night the ex brought me a new phone. He said he didn't like my new cheap phone. He also paid for 2 months of service but it required swapping companies. Now I can't receive or make calls because it takes up to 24 hours to swap the number to the new phone.

Yesterday was productive. I got my ss and drivers license issued in my maiden name (I've gone back to it). Got a haircut, too. I saw my rheumatologist. She went over the mri. She said the back problems are caused by arthritis deteriating the cartilage in my lumbar spine. We are going to go ahead with pain management. I told her I'm very uncomfortable with the idea of surgery on my back. She suggested a back brace and upped my tramadol. She also noticed a big knot on the back of my wrist. I thought I had knocked it into something. Apparently, its a carpal boss and is caused by arthritis in my wrist. We have to watch it because it could compress nerves and cause issues. Its basically a bone spur. Very informative. Arthritis is in almost all of my joints now. I've had it for 18 years so she said its going to start making certain joints unstable. Anyone wanna trade joints? Lol

Ok, ok, ok!! This is ridiculous!! How can you all be enjoying cooler weather and I'm baking at 95 degrees! Every afternoon, we've been getting storms from the gulf so at least the sun goes away and then it just gets steamy!

AV- Mosquitos are horrible here too!! Yucky!! I'm so glad you are taking care of business!! I felt very empowered with each thing I did. Keep moving forward!!

Rob- I'm so glad to hear your news!!! This is awesome!! And keep us posted on the exotic food! How's Gizmo?? Has that poor innocent baby been accused of more maliciousness?? Poor thing!!

Joyce- yay!!!! So good to see you!! Sorry to hear about the thyroid issues. I was diagnosed hypothyroid 15 years ago. I have a wonderful endo who I've been with ever since.

JAMIE!! ARE YOU PACKED YET? You are going to have such fun!!

Karen- how are you doing?? How's Jasmine??

Nothing going on here. Cleaned house this morning. Tutoring here in a few minutes and grocery store later today.
