Hi Michelle. I hope you don't mind but I have a question for you. I have my M.Ed. in Education for grades K-6. I graduated with it about 5 years ago. However, I have not taken my Praxis and other state certification exams due to my depression and just getting caught up with life. (I know I need to do this and soon!) ...However, my question is I need to start bringing in another source of income into my household. And I am considering starting my own tutoring business. Do you think that I could still be competitive in obtaining students as I am not certified? I'm just curious on your thoughts about this.

Hi Cass-


There is a huge demand for tutors. We have lists that we provide to parents. My counselor brought up the idea of tutoring over Skype or FaceTime. Something I'm still considering for the future.

I'm not sure if you have tutoring companies where you are like Huntington, but it's worth applying there too.

Also there are tons of coop home school groups. See if you could get in with them too.

There really are a lot of options. You just need to figure out which direction you want to take.

Thanks for your advice, Michelle. I had not even thought about home schooling groups. What a great idea! I am definitely going to pursue this further.
