Listening to a DC radio program about the largest homeless shelter in DC, DC General. The interview is with a mother of 4, whose two oldest children are with relatives. Her mother died 9 months ago, and she and her two youngest moved to the shelter 6 months ago. In the late spring, an 8 YO child disappeared from the shelter, reputed to have been taken by a janitor employed there. He committed suicide, but the child was never found. Residents struggle with transportation, food, jobs, and raising sufficient money to move to a home of their own, in a city where even a studio apartment is over 1000$ a month.
It helps me to remember that the only way to change is to move forward.
