Broke up with GF - Depression

Hello everyone,
First post and whatnot on here, I came here for re-assurance and different peoples opinions and experiences.. So I broke up with my ex recently after just over 1 year, the thing is I hadn't seen her for the last 4 months or so, as weird as that sounds. Just a background story about her, back when she was 16, she was diagnosed with Anorexia and was submitted to hospital, (now she's 20) She has depression and anxiety, although I don't know what level of severity. She's a perfectionist and feels everyone is before herself and doesn't worry about her own happiness and well being, which is one thing I always tried telling her to change, because I know true happiness first comes within one self. Anyway, when we had the conversation about breaking up, she was telling me how, she feels she can't give the love and affection anymore because she isn't in a 100% state of mind and it's not fair on me, and she feels burdened and guilty that I'm in the relationship more than she is and she can't be the proper girlfriend she was or wishes to be. I told her I don't blame her for anything or held anything against her or faulted her for anything, but she just said that she let herself get worse and reached a bad state as she is now, and it was time she started putting herself 1st and started making herself better and not all about just pleasing everyone else around her. So she can't deal with the relationship at this point of time because it's just one extra thing adding to her worries and stress, so it was better to just end it and remain friends, and that I am one person in her life she genuinely cares about, and she re-assured me via phone and text that I hadn't lost her. I told her that no matter what I will stand by her friend or whatever she wants me to be and support her no matter what and she has made a brave decision and taking a good step towards getting better. She has started seeing a psychologist and whatnot, so I'm glad she's making the good hard effort to help better herself. What I wanted to ask you people here is, have you been in the same or similar situation? Will we get back together in the future? What should I do from here on in?

Yeah ofcourse it'll be hard to tell when we can't look into the future >< but I mean she was saying she doesn't want to promise me anything because she hates not being able to keep them, but she kept saying how I haven't lost her and she just needs to do this, which I understand. Yeah there could be more to it I guess, I should just wait for her to contact me hey? Like I shouldn't be too forward with messaging or calling an stuff, let it he on her terms kinda thing?

Welcome to the forum.

relationships are rocky when people have depression and issues to deal with. The future can not be predicated by anyone, it is a day to day exsistance.

The best you can expect is a life long friendship if you are willing to support her.

AV is correct however, You are young and have a wonderful life ahead of you. Work on you, find out who you are and what it is you want out of life. There is not much you can do for her at this time. so do for yourself. Let her find her own way, in her own time.

This is no ones fault. At least not hers or yours. If you has Anx. chances are there is trauma of some sort from her past that has to be faced and only she can do that, when the time is right for her.

I could not face my trauma til I was 49. So she is much braver. Give her credit.

Yes, live is rough as times. Although without the sucky parts, we would never really appreaciate the warm fuzzy, goose bumby, fun parts of life. The darkness always, always goes away. So NEVER give up on life.

I meant that anything is possible. She could decide she wants to be career driven or that she wants to travel or join a convent. I just mean her future is far from decided and even she doesn't know what she wants.
