Hey Cilly...It's actually not weird at all, Sweetie. I've never taken Lexapro. However, when I was early in my PM trials, I tried Morphine ER. I had NO CLUE of the life-threatening constipation w/danger of intestinal obstruction that this med would cause. NOTHING worked for me on Morphine, so I had to STOP.
IMO there are several good OTC stool softeners/stimulants/laxatives that can be helpful to you. I will list some that have worked for me, because I have severe chronic constipation that is worsened by pain meds. Of course, these may not work for you, but it's worth a try.
1.) Magnesium Citrate is citrus flavored clear liquid- -a dollar and change- -Pour over crushed ice and drink 1/2 bottle on a day when you can be close to toilet. If you're totally backed up, add a couple of Dulcolax.
2.) Daily maintenance for me is Perdiem ($10 @ WM). It's a smooth natural stimulant similar to Senokot, but works better for me.
3.) A daily softener such as equate equivalent to Senokot works well too.
I hope I've not overwhelmed you, but I know how miserable one can get when not having "regular" BMs. The Morphine left me unable to go for 11 days. Primal pain...
Feel Better~~Dixie
