Hello all...I haven't been on here much but I hope everyone is well...
I just wanted to provide an update on my lexapro...I have been on this medication going on 6 weeks now and I felt a little better within 1-2 weeks then I felt even more better after.I wasn't waking up with anxiety in the morning anymore and things were looking normal again.... Now I have a concern...last week I did start my menstrual cycle and felt mild anxiety and fatigue and didn't give much thought to it since I figured it was my hormones all crazy... Now this week I'm done with my cycle and I'm still waking up with a little anxiety in the mornings... I don't know if I should be concerned.
What do u think?

roxy,
I would give it another week.
Use some coping skills for your anxiety.
If it does not get better they call the doc and see if they suggest a little bump up in the med.
remember, depression is like a roller coaster ride, and medication does not do the job 100% all the time. We as the patient have to work hard at times to balance our emotions.
Peace

Trina,
Thank you! I will definitely wait another week...I have mentioned before in the forums that this is my 3rd time on lexapro and its always worked great before. And I've always only had to take 5mg....but for some reason this week I've had little anxiety and today I just seem to be having more.I guess I'll just have to see and wait how I continue.

Thanks cilly...how long have you been on lexapro for? I have clonazepam on an as needed basis for anxiety but I rarely use those.

Roxy,
There's a gal in the anxiety forum named Keaz who posted almost identical to what you posted. Her post was a while ago. I think the title was "update on meds." She'd started a new AD & was feeling relief for abt a month til her period and got the scary feelings back & thought she was taking a bad step back. I believe she's back on track now & it was just an anomaly.
Hope that helps ya!

Thanks lisa! Yes I remember keaz..I don't think I've read her post...I will make sure to read up on it.
I'm feeling a lot better now since the morning.I think alot of it has to do with me as well focusing on the anxiety feeling that I just triggered it more.
I got home and kept busy and anxiety went away! I was just concerned since I had been feeling a litte anxious in the mornings.I've been on lex before and it's always worked good for me.

Roxy, so glad you are feeling better, what you did was 'distraction' which is a DBT skill! Well done!
I would like to suggest you try mindfulness, there is a great book entitled, HOW TO TRAIN A WILD ELEPHANT. quick read, wonderful reference to go back to and easy to understand.
Lisa, thanks for being so supportive to everyone, you are such a big part of the HW depression family, it is like you have always been around!
Peace

I was feeling better last night and again this morning I woke up anxious I couldn't sleep so I had to give in and take a clonazepam to help ease the anxiety and to get some sleep.I'm just wondering if this is normal to get anxiety again when I was already waking up good...or is the medication just not working for me...and its just In the mornings. I've called my doc just to see what he says.
Thanks Trina!

Morning anxiety Is a common thread for all of us. Mine has subsided but I had it for awhile. I honestly can't say what changed. I would have to say maybe the Lamictal they added to the Pristiq back in mid August.
I'm having mostly good days but sometimes I get affected by derealization. Idk if that's caused from PTSD of this year taking forever to find stability or even bc of the trauma I had this year of my best friend moving away.
One thing I have learned in hindsight, is to not let a streak of anxiety or feeling weird, get you off track. Easier said than done but ppl told me that it doesn't mean things are backsliding.
Why do I forget how long you've been in your med?! Is it 6 weeks?
Sending you peace today. You hang in there bc I promise this is temporary. Not to mention, girl you still have hormones playing a huge part and those too will regulate & settle down.
Hugs!

Thank you Lisa! Yes I've heard anxiety is common on the mornings....hopefully it's just due to my hormones still even though I been done with my period since Sunday.. And yes this Sunday it will be 6 weeks on this med.thank you for your kind words! I too hope this is just a temp thing and won't have to switch meds or increase.
Im glad your having good days and I hope it stays that way! Is pristiq an SSRI? I've never heard of lamictal.

Hi Roxy-
Pristiq is an SNRI & Lamictal is commonly used "addon" medication to work with an AD.
Hope your night is peaceful and your morning more peaceful than the previous

Oh ok I see.I need to do some research to get familiar with the differences of ssris and snris...I went to a therapist today and tomorrow I see my doc so I shall see what he says...
Thanks again Lisa I am feeling great this evening and I too hope I have a peaceful morning! Have a peaceful night as well!
