Whether it is a fluke or I was taking too much Brintellix, since decreasing the medication from 20mg's to 10 mg's my depression has decreased dramatically, I think I have only cried once since decreasing it and I don't feel that crushing sense of being so very lost.
I have notice, although, that my irritability is heightened at the moment, and I am just hoping that is due to the decrease.
Speaking to a member in here she said her doctor said that Brintellix could be over stimulating for me, and I have to believe this doctor was right, in my mind you would think it would be a good thing to be stimulated that this would put a fire under you feet to get things done, but for me it made me almost non-functioning, so whether of not I understand the reasoning as to why I can't be over stimulated doesn't really matter, as long as my depression is not at the level it was.
I know with raising an Autistic child being over stimulated causes him great issues, noises, lighting, being in a crowded place, etc so maybe in a way this medication made me over stimulated to the point that I could not do the things I once could?

Thank you , I can only hope it is from the decrease and not from some weird hormone that my body decided to produce for 3 days

I went to see my new PCP doctor today, who has ironically suffered from exactly the same issues I have suffered with, she told me that the reason I have such issues on certain medications is because my liver does not metabolize the medicine correctly, something about
enzymes....etc and that she has the same issues, so a medication like brintellix would be hard for my body to correctly break down.
She said I need to call my Psychiatrist tell him I want to be put back on zoloft, and if he will not then she will refer me to a different Psychiatrist, but she told me to start the Gabapentin that it will not hurt me at all and that she gives that to her patients to help them sleep at night.
So thankfully I like her a lot, she suffered with agoraphobia as well and was housebound for 6 months so she knows I can fight this and get better, so this seems like a doctor that I can benefit from greatly.

Yes Karen she made me feel like a real person, and that I can get better because she did, that I have to fight it and not let my Psychiatrist tell me what he wants me on, let him know I want to go back to something my body could handle but not at such a strong dose, if he can't accommodate me then they will give me a referral to another Psychiatrist, she said this is my life and I need to let him know this medication is not for me if he can't accept that then I need someone that can.
I did call and of course he is on vacation, so I will stay on the lower dose of Brintellix until he returns.
Hugs right back atcha!

Sometimes we just got to roll with the punches and deal with what we have. I imagine you will be okay on the lower dose of Brintellix until you see him. If he doesn't listen to you, I would get another doc like the new doc said. Does that make sense?
I hope that you do good on the Zoloft when you go back on it. I took that one years ago. It was good for depression for me. I got diarrhea from it though and had to go off. It took me about
six or seven tries before I found what worked for me and then I stayed on that for 15 years. It isn't always easy finding what is right for ourselves with medications, but we get it in the end...
Have a good day. Sun is out here, nice!!!

Well my worst day on Zoloft has been better than my best day on Brintellix, I had some very traumatic events happen when my doctor decided to change my medication, I think a lot of it was circumstances and anyone would have been saddened during those events, so in hindsight I was too eager to change hoping to do better, but what I really needed was time to heal from the events I went through.
Now knowing how my body reacts to medication I know I have to be on something that my liver can metabolize properly, my PCP said if my doctor would have even put me on Pristique? I would have done better than being on Brintellix because of the enzymes needed to break down that medication, so in some ways it makes sense and in other ways I am clueless, but at least I now know that my body is actually fighting these medications and it is just not my mind.

I am so happy that you found a new doctor and you hit the jackpot with this one!! To find a doc is one thing, but to find one that can actually empathize with you? JACKPOT! !! This is wonderful and I truly believe that things happen for a reason and you deserve this! Just knowing you have that support must make you feel better!!! Big hugs! Lisa

Thank you coopsmom(Lisa) yeah she made me feel almost comfortable in my own skin which is a good thing, so hopefully this will be the start of a good thing. I often wondered how doctors can really empathize with a patient if they have never been in their situation, so finding a doctor that has been their and can relate is a real blessing!
