getting life insurance after a History of SI

I am 30 y/o and have been looking into things like life insurance, and so have my parents many years ago, as I have had several surgeries, procedure, illnesses, etc.
Somehow, after a failed s. attempt and hospitalization (even though i signed all papers as voluntary-its shows i was "committed" by a hospital resident) I no longer can get ANY kind of life insurance.
How are you suppose to rebuild your life, and provide assistance for your family, if needed, if they hold these things against you forever. I understand them not being to use the insurance if Cause of death is self inflicted, but how come if I have a wreck, or cancer i can't get life insurance!!??

i can totally understand an insurance company not paying anything is cause of death is ruled as suicide. but this was many many years ago, and now I can't plan for my future. My cousins husband died in a wreck a year ago, and without his life insurance they never would have been able to bury him or survive financially. Now a bad decision years ago has me left with added burden on my family IF god forbid, something did happen accidentally.
I think there should be like a 5 year after you can qualify again or with approval by a dr or something (like id ever get that though)

Does a history of depression affect life insurance too, or is it only if you've been hospitalised/made a s. attempt?

Even though you can not get the regular life insurance you may want to check into final expense insurance. A lot of companies offer it to high risk people that can not get traditional insurance.
Also some companies may have a life insurance with suicide clause.
