So, Mom was in hospital with flu for the past 5 days. I took her home yesterday. I knew she was feeling better when she started worrying about her hair and nails. She is a real girlie-girl.
Anyway, my family has a rather offbeat sense of humor. I was sitting with her Saturday, and a nurse's assistant came in to take her 'vitals.' The poor girl was quite young, and clearly fairly new at this. My mother took her hand, clasped it, and said, "Wait. Are you going to bring them back?" The nurse clearly thought that Mom was just confused about the term, and said 'We need them to check that you are improving." Mom says, 'Well, dear, I think I need them more. You folks keep on taking them, and I am going to need them back eventually, so take care of them okay?" All the while, she is patting the girl's hand kindly, and smiling at her.
She knew exactly what she was doing.
