Hi, welcome to the forum.
All of us I think can understand, but at least for me I've come to grips with it.
Depression is as real as any other medical ailment. It is as real as IBS, diabetes, diverticulitis, etc. If you had any of those you'd not hesitate to take medication, right? There is this idea that is out there that depression is 'all in your head' and that you can just 'snap out of it.' This is NOT true. Those of us with depression are wired that way.
I'm convinced I'd be dead if it weren't for the meds I take. I didn't want to rely on meds to get me through every day, either, I'm pretty sure none of us did, but if you have to you have to and there is no shame in it.
HUGS and I'm glad you found this forum. There is a ton of support to be had here.
