I am depressing

I have never done anything like this but do not have anyone to talk to. I have been on Lexapro for 12 years. I am married to a recovering alcoholic and have a son who is 21. My husband just went off valium which he has been taking daily which he said his doctor prescribed to him for his seizures he has epilepsy. He stopped taking them a week ago and last night we had a huge blowup. It sounds silly but I asked if we could get pizza for dinner and he said we can have tuna sandwiches. I said to him that he is tight with his wallet and he flipped out. Yelling at me and saying I take him granite and that he pays 80 of the bills and it goes on. I ran upstairs and went to bed and was crying he comes up and is telling to look at his laptop and look at all the bills he pays. I kept asking him to stop yelling calm down..he would not. I locked myself in my room as did not feel safe. He left the house and came back and the yelling and saying awful things like I am useless, I take him for granite and just yelling. We have not talked this morning and he went to bed..he says he feels disconnected to me and is mad at me and my son. He also said he did not sleep and feels like he will have a seizure. I do not feel like he takes care of me and more that I take care of him. I think he has so much going on with him and he is unstable. I suggested he might benefit from therapy and he gets mad. Help, I am drowning with emotion.

Valium is very addicting. I am surprised that a doctor perscribed it to a recovering alcoholic. There are many other meds available for seizures.

My gut is telling me it is all connected. I grew up with raging alcoholic parents.

Karen gave you some good advice, I also would think about getting in touch with Alanon.

You are welcome Moon. I hope you can deal with the situation okay. Keep posting, it does help. It is hard to live with somebody yelling at you all the time. I wonder if anger management would help???

Hi Moon. I too am a recovered alcoholic, 19 years sober with the help of AA. Did your husband's sponsor tell him to stop using the Valium? Some folks in AA don't understand that there is a difference between using a medication properly and drug use/abuse. He is obviously going through withdrawal. This does not mean he was misusing his medication, it simply means his body is not used to functioning without it. As was suggested by Karen, I'd get in touch with Alanon. They are wonderful at guiding folks who find themselves riding the stormy seas of recovery with the alcoholic in their lives. Keep sharing, we are here for you.
