Hello everybody,

Just introducing myself and saying a big HI to everyone. To be brief, I have suffered with depression all my life really - last two and a half years have been severe - but I'm still here! I like to be optimistic and see the good in each day - otherwise, well, it gets just too miserable.

No matter how dark the times when we stumble, there is always light to be found from somewhere. Even if it is just a faint glimmer, it is still something to follow - until we can find our way back out again, to stand tall in the sun once more and shake the shadows off of our weary bones.

Would love to make some new friends - but no pressure!!!! Have to admit, my trust levels are pretty depleted now, but I want to embrace the hope with open arms and a big cheesy smile!

Hope you are all doing ok today and please feel free to say hello. Who knows what will happen after that? :)

Do you find that your music helps with the dark times? I bet it does... Thank you for posting. I hope you find that you feel comfortable corresponding with us. I hope you have a good day too!!! I find music usually makes me feel better...

A positive attitude can take you a long ways. I find staying in the moment helps too.

Yes, music does get me by. The piano has always been a passion of mine and I can release my emotions onto the keys, often feeling more subdued afterwards. Beautiful music moves the soul - igniting the melody within us and giving us unique inspiration. It reminds us that there is still beauty in this world, that there is always a new dawn to rub out the mistakes of the yesterdays.

Positivity can only ever be a good thing. I have seen the dark days, held captive in the caged dungeon and succumbed to the demons of my own personalised hell - but it was not a place I wanted to remain in. Like I said, no matter how dire the circumstances, there is always a way out. Sometimes, you just have to wait for a clear head, so you may see it.

I like what you said about staying in the moment - grounding of the good times, perhaps?

Nothing wrong with getting a tad older - me too! :) And metal turtle with spikes - LOVE IT! Also happy to hear that music is your therapy too. I think it takes a certain kind of someone, for music to truly reach the soul and inspire us to see the beauty in life.

Ok Happy Turtle - writing is also my passion and I really liked your quote! So now already, you stand out to me! I love strong quotes that reflect positivity.

Welcome, LPP. It's nice to be able to interact with folks who understand our battles. I agree, a good attitude will take you further than medication ever can. Well,okay, that's a mite over-stated,but essentially true.

We chose how we view our world. Despite ups and down that get thrown into the mix, the only thing we really control is our perception.

Hello Myself 09. It was very nice to be addressed as LPP - that is how I am referred to by a friend of mine. So you made me feel very at home with that. Thank You!

I love that you agree with how we view our world. Perception is everything and makes all the difference. The problem with depression, is it isolates us. It gives us masks to wear, to pretend to fit in and be 'normal'. Our internal eyes become clouded with disbelief of better days, and it is all too easy to sink in the black void within us. To become a prisoner within ourselves, caged and afraid.

But we should always remind ourselves that some flames will never extinguish. Sure, they may die down to only embers at times - but all it takes is one tiny spark to ignite it once more. It is never hopeless. We just need to believe in ourselves - hard to do at times, but as long as there is breath in our bodies, we can always emerge victorious and see clearly once more.

Too much? Sorry, rambled a bit.

That one I often go back to because I can be so self punishing. I agree whole heartedly with you saying 'battle' because that is exactly what it is. But words are our power. I often try to convey this to people and my owns say :-

'Words. Lots of words. Letters joined together to form the language of love, of betrayal, or wounds that will never heal. I beg you, I beseech you, open your heart and hear the cries of the weak. Listen with an urgency and tell me you are untouched. Speech is power above all else. The right words can reach you, no matter how deep you bury yourself. They can make you betray your beliefs and guide you through the dense and harrowed paths, they can armour you with the specific tools required, if only you would listen. Sorry - I've gone on a bit again! I do get carried away. All it takes is a key word, in this case 'battle'. It's just that I have witnessed so much ugliness in this world, defeat and human cruelty. Words sting and having been subjected to both physical and mental abuse, I found the mental to be far worse. Bruises heal, broken bones have healed but the words repeat daily in my mind. Such awful words that I wish people would consider before uttering.

So I close my ears to the ugliness and listen to the words in my chosen songs, words from true friends, words from my own mind - when it is well. They mean the world to me. They truly have saved me.

Hello again Karen,

So you are an animal lover too! I'm liking you more and more! I used to have a dog but she sadly passed away years ago. Not sure I could get another. I swore no more pets but somehow have ended up with three cats! They are my babies and spoilt rotten every day.

It's been a lovely day where I am and I am hoping that the sun reached you on your walk today - to recharge those internal batteries! :)

I'm slowly getting the hang of this.... when I am more confident, I shall try to reply to other threads.

Really wishing you a beautiful evening and give your lovely dog an extra big cuddle from me. xx

Hey Lady. We have much in common. "The power of life and death are in the tongue." I can either use my words to uplift someone or tear them down. I much prefer the former! Most of the music I listen to is contemporary Christian. I find it very uplifting. I hesitate sometimes to offer my favorites up to people though, I don't want anyone to think I'm trying to convert them! The rules are rather specific on that topic and so far, I have not crossed any lines, simply shared what helps me.

I have an emotional support dog and 6 cats. My daughter moved back in with me with her son, her support dog and their 4 cats. I have a full house! My new mantra is...never have more pets than you have hands! It's going to be a while before I can put that into practice, but it is on my mind!

I have always had a dog or cat. Mostly dogs... I find that their unconditional love is so reassuring and comforting. I am glad you have cats. Cats are so independent though. They often wander...
