Karen, thankfully Picture Butte is hundreds of miles south of the Fort McMurry area, so no fires there at all. If your friends were in the Fort Mac region, and were one of the 100,000 or so displaced, they may have registered with redcross.ca.

It's been crazy for the last couple of days. WestJet, our local short haul carrier, has been ferrying people from the various oilsands camps non-stop. Some are being flown to Edmonton, others to Calgary, and still others are part of huge police escorted convoys. Industry has opened all the taps and millions upon millions of dollars are being spent ensuring no need goes unmet. From clothing manufacturers to airlines, hotels, restaurants, transport companies, landlords, homeowners, oil companies, farmers and grocers: it's an all hands on deck mentality. There's no question about remuneration, everyone is just contributing.

It's freaking awesome.

As I said previously, I'm so proud of my province.

Yes, I heard from her. She said she is 100 miles from it. Which I am happy about.

Sounds like people are really coming together. I think that is awesome.

My grand daughter Karly was born Wednesday night. I cannot wait to see her in person tomorrow!

I miss my Mom and chose not to go with my girlfriend to the celebration at her Moms home today.

I also chose not to go up to the gathering at my son's girlfriends home.

Instead, I stayed home by myself after my girlfriend departed and my daughter and grandson went up to see the baby. I planted more flowers and plants, cut a huge bunch of lilacs to bring in, and just sat and enjoyed a quiet cup of tea.

Tomorrow, I have 'Grandma duty'! Everyone else will be going to work so I will spend time with Jenn and the baby. I can't handle crowds right now. Tomorrow will be wonderful. Tonight, I'll be going through all of the old photos finding the ones of my son when he was a baby. Doing a bit of 'show and tell' tomorrow.

Well,, if no one else was going to drink the wine, can't let it evaporate. I tend to tune out when the baby talk starts, so I get ya.

Nice weekend--okay day today. We biked, I worked in my garden. Got some nice flowers from BF for being a good small animal mom. My work was cancelled at the last minute today--so I still got paid! I am headed over to the gym here in a bit to go swimming and workout.

On Edit--I forgot! Yesterday on our bike ride, we were jetting down this long hill back into town, when I saw bf (far ahead as he usually is since he outweighs me) slow down considerably. Cars braked as well, in both directions. An entire herd of deer (6-7) decided that was the time to cross the road. There were a few full-sized ones, but the great majority of the deer were quite young. I was far enough back that I could just enjoy the sight without slowing too rapidly. I prefer deer sighting to goose sightings,any day.

Does the hotline take requests? No ice here--will a bag of frozen peas do?

Bro works as a plumber in a large federal agency. He said the fountain on the terrace attracts ducks. A visitor put some ducklings in the fountain, thinking they were lost. The ducklings drowned, since they didn't have enough oil on their feathers to float. The plumbers had to clean up the fountain AND console the weeping tourist.

I like the brushes with wildlife we can still get in some places. Speaking of which,I must go and see if the local critters have left my garden alone.

How is your garden doing by the way? We got ours rototilled today. Hubby has put a lot into the soil so it looks real good. Though I suspect somebody rototilled up one of my delphiniums. My husband said one looked dead. Funny thing, it didn't look dead when I checked them. Ha!!!

I worry about finding things in the woods. Especially dead bodies. I would hate for that to ever happen. I do carry a cell phone so I could call 911 I guess if it happened. But hey, you never know...

Sorry to hear about the poor little ducks. I would of freaked out...
