Thought Exercise

Okay, if you had $1,000, and you had to spend it entirely on yourself, what would you buy?

I think I would buy clothes cuz my fat clothes are too big and my skinny clothes are too small.

Or I could buy 500 muffins and then my fat clothes would fit again.

Or I could buy a pair of pants and an iPad because my original iPad is verrrrrrrry ollllllllld annnnnd slooowwwwww, and even my cat refuses to play with it.

So what would you get? Scotch? A new music cylinder for the Victrola? Tyres for your bicycle?

I have the same problem with clothes at the moment :-/

I'd get a Samsung Galaxy Edge S7, but that would use up half the money in a heartbeat. But still: brand new phone to ignore calls on and never text anybody - it's certainly tempting.

I'm also getting more interested in a PS4, with the release of Persona 5 and the Final Fantasy 7 remake due next year.

A new tablet would be nice, but not essential. Ditto laptop. Ditto car.

I guess that leaves new clothes, PS4, phone and a bag of penny sweets with the change I've got left over.

@Lynnwood - 10 years and 30 pounds ago I spent a hot summer's day on the Kicking Horse river doing some white water rafting. In reality, it was more like a guided float, but it was still fun. A couple of hours in, our guide suggested that we were in a good spot on the river to jump in and cool down. My brother and I jumped in and I have never, EVER, been in water that cold. Nothing like a mountain fed river to cool down your core temperature significantly.

@M - The S7 Edge is, dare I say, one freakin' sexy phone. If I had to choose a phone to ignore calls and not send texts, that would be the one. I'd still probably get pants and shirts though. I have to cinch my fat pants pretty tight with my belt to stop them from falling down, and the overall effect is that I look kinda homeless.

And I still can't get the zipper done up on my skinny pants.

I feel the same way about my laptop. It's a 5 year old Dell that's just angry at the world. I am waiting to see what the new X-Box iteration looks like, hopefully it's awesome enough that it forces the price of the current version down significantly. Cuz I'm cheap that way.

@K - Fishing gear, good call! I'm the first to admit there's nothing better than a good pan-fried trout. Except maybe two of them. Pinch of salt, dredged in flour, droooooool. Add a lemon wedge and it's like eating food sanctified by angels.

And there is no ice cream but Ben & Jerry's, and Chunky Monkey is its prophet.

Not the only female NCOT, I don't like shopping either. The changing room sceeve me out and I have not patience look for sizes.

I have the same issue with Sizes! Must be the age, mid fifties! Ha!

1,000.00, I would spend 300.00 on a 25yr old bottle of McChallans scotch. It would last the rest of my life I think. I can only handle a finger ever now and then with my medicine and I am talking about once or twice a year!

The other 700.00 would go to a heated would floor in the family room for easy clean up when the dogs are sick.

@Trina - I sometimes try look for new clothes, but I get bored after about 30 seconds. I don't like changing rooms either. If it wasn't for my mum and going shopping with her (which does take much of the strain out of it) from time to time, I'd be walking around in bin bags by now.

@Myself - I'd love to get a bike, but have nowhere really to cycle: the roads are just way too busy for me. The electric bike looks like a good idea though.

Resisting running out and buying an I-Pod or some bike gear (I'm generally impatient and go for the instant gratification - maybe I'm progressing); I would put it toward my planned bike trip to Italy next year, bucket list item!

Karen- what type of fishing do you do?

@M - Evidently there's a 'Pokestop' that keeps announcing itself near my office and it plays havoc with my commute home. There are often hundreds of zombariffic Poke-people catching thingamabobs and whatnots. If this persists we'll probably pass a law that states if you hit one of these folks with your car, you don't have to phone anyone, just roll 'em off to the side and carry on.

M09 - Finally, a green initiative I can get behind! Have you looked into BionX? You can retrofit your existing bike and choose as much or as little assist as you want. Great for angry joints.

@Tortuga - I can taste it now. The wood, the peat, the beautiful burn on the way down. drooooooool

@T - Don't worry about that scotch expiring, I'll make sure to help you give it a good home. ;-)

@Cyclist - I can't imagine a more beautiful bike trip! I'm pretty sure I'd need M09's electric bike though, cuz darn, those Italian alps would be challenging!
