Hello Everyone


I have been dating a woman for 8 months who was diagnosed with severe depression 5 years before we met. 1 month into our relationship she was on some very heavy medication that made her groggy and out of it a lot. A couple months ago she told me during a sexual conversation we were having that before I came into her life she sent messages to a guy about sex and was very graphic in those messages. Well I recently found out it was 2 months into our relationship, not before we met. I confronted her about it. She told me she had a lot of trouble remembering dates and that due to medications she was not herself. I asked if there was any other cheating going on and she replied she can't say no but can't say yes. She says the 1st 3 months of our relationship is extremely foggy. Could that be real? Can one truly not remember sleeping with someone or having sexual conversations or telling people she didn't have a bf? Are depression meds that powerful? I'm not sure if I can trust her and using the depression as an excuse.

In depression there are a few conditions that may cause this.

One is multiple personalities and the other is dissociation. I have dissociative disorder.

Sex can be involved I suppose. I have never encountered this, not have I met anyone dealing with this. The few that are sex oriented remember dates, times to the second. Keep it hidden and act like they are angels to the public. Even their closest friends.

Does your GF go to a Doctor. Is she on medication, do you see her take it?
Medication should only make a person drosie in the getting use to period, say 3-4 weeks, then it tappers off.

If she is like this all the time for real, her doc ought to be notified and consideration of a med change made.

My gut? and I don't know you from Adam or your GF. Don't get serious. You will only be used.

My first impression is that she is using her mental illness and medication as an excuse to not have to deal with and face what she has done. I would be very careful in this relationship.

I could be wrong, it is just my opinion. So don't take it to heart.

I hope you find out what is going on.

No, antidepressants aren't that powerful. They can make you feel groggy and out of it, but they don't erase your memory or change who you fundamentally are. I would go with your gut instinct on this one.

Freeze, I feel the same way that BnotAfraid, getting by, and
NiceCupOfTea do. Lots of personal, first-hand experience here, and I would agree the others to be very careful. I am also not an expert, but I have never lost my memory during bouts with depression, and the very subject is not one that is trivial and easily forgotten imo.
